October 2019

Friends,

When you receive this newsletter, the group going to Albuquerque will be packing for the fall getaway to the Balloon Festival. We leave October 4th and return on October 6th. In April 2020, we will have our spring trip, which includes 2 days in Poteet, Texas, for the Strawberry Festival and 2 days in San Antonio on the River Walk. We will have a sign-up sheet at the dinner this month.

If you are a new Lake Ridge Lady and would like to participate in the events on our calendar, but you feel anxious about attending without knowing anyone, call me at 806-535-9323. We have all had similar feelings. I would love to talk to you and make sure that you have people waiting for you so that you do not have to be alone. The benefits of participating are many, and all the things you fear will pass quickly when you are in the company of those walking the same path as you.

I want you all to know how precious you are to me. I am so blessed to be able to see you and do all the fun things that we do together. I love my job and the relationships that I have in my life because of the Lake Ridge Ladies. Before the Lake Ridge Ladies, I simply functioned in my life as a widow, but now, I have joy, friendships, mentors, and a purposeful life. I am here for you, but I also wanted to tell you that each time I see you, I am the one who is truly blessed.

Caring For Your Thumbie NecklacePlatingAll Sterling Silver, Noble Bronze, and 14K White Gold keepsakes (excepting items that include Patina) are plated with an all-new Rhodium plating. This new Rhodium is harder than any currently used in the jewelry world. It is highly scratch resistant and helps prevent tarnishing, letting keepsakes retain their just-new shine longer. There is no charge for this service.PolishingIf your piece is tarnished, first try cleaning with a jewelry cloth. Often, simply polishing the keepsake will return it to its original shine. Use a good silver cream polish to restore the shine and place a protective coating (and tarnish resistor) on your piece. These are available in most hardware and grocery stores. Again, follow the manufacturer’s instructions.Silver cream polish should never be used on stones or resin.Liquid Tarnish RemoverIf heavily tarnished, remove the tarnish with a liquid tarnish remover, following the manufacturer’s instructions. It only takes a second or two. Never leave jewelry in liquid tarnish removers for longer than a few seconds. Also, never submerge jewelry with stones (synthetic or genuine) or resin in liquid tarnish remover.

When Peoples Bank was formed in 1999, you might say it was formed with People in mind. From our logo (depicting three people) to our name and ultimately our motto “People that You Know,” we are all about serving people and their financial needs.

In an era where things are increasingly impersonal, we believe personal service and attention is a differentiator in banking. When you enter Peoples Bank, our goal is that you will be greeted by at least three people. We also want to know your name and something about you (family, friends, and interests).

We have a Vision Statement for our bank that reads, “Peoples Bank strives to be “the best company” our employees ever work for, “the best bank” our customers ever do business with and “the best investment” our shareholders ever make.” And our Mission Statement is “Peoples Bank exists to place the needs of our employees, customers and shareholders at the center of everything we do!”

Peoples Bank is proud to be a true community bank. We focus attention on the needs of local families, businesses, towns, and farmers. We help keep the communities we serve vibrant and growing, by being involved in our communities.

If you do not already bank with us, we invite you to come in and see what it is like to do business with “People that You Know!”

Amy LewisMichael and I met in the late 90s. We were both employed by the City of Lubbock in Public Safety. He was a firefighter, and I worked for the police. We enjoyed many of the same things - traveling, the Rocky Mountains, hiking, camping, Texas Ranger games, and just sitting home with each other. We married and had two wonderful daughters - Audra in 2001 and Jessica in 2003. Michael loved being a dad. He was Band Dad, Swim Team Dad, and Homework Dad. When Audra decided she wanted to graduate high school early, he worked with her every evening after work to get all her credits in. She graduated with Honors.

Every summer, we would take a two-week vacation to the mountains to get away from the internet and cell phones. It was important for us to be together, spend quality time and give the girls memories to last a lifetime. Michael was the definition of a family man.

Michael was proud to be a Lubbock Firefighter. He felt very honored to be in this profession. He was also a proud U.S. Navy veteran. He was going to retire in December of 2020, and we were going to start planning for our retirement adventures. When he was diagnosed with esophageal cancer before Labor Day 2018, he was determined to conquer it. When I would cry with worry, he would tell me God had given him a peace and everything was going to be okay. Michael’s faith was unshakable.

Michael was a fighter, and we thought he had it beaten back. On the evening of November 9, we were playing cards with friends and celebrating that he was at the end of radiation and chemo. Earlier in the day, he had picked up Jessica from school and took her driving. He felt great. On the morning of November 10, he passed out at home, and we took him to the hospital. He died that evening unexpectedly from an arterial bleed. He was 56.

Michael was my best friend. We had 19 years together, but we did so much living in those years. As the one-year anniversary of his death approaches, I find myself still unsure of what the future holds for myself and our teenage kids. I do know that I was very lucky to have had him in my life. I learned so much from him, and I am a better person because of him.
