pals out of trouble.

Shirleyir ey is an eating mac ine wit

a particular fon ness for pizza. She’s

so big that she often gets stuck and

nee s the other sheep to push, pull,

or even slingshot her to safety.

ThOne big happy (if slightly dopey) family, the sheep like to play and

create mischief together, though it’s usually Shaun an Bitzer who

sort out the resulting messes.

Timmy s MumThe very loving, if sometimes

absentmin e mother of Timmy,

she is recognizable by the curlers

but Timmy is often at the center of

Shaun sniffed the stench wafting from the

pigsty an eane against t e wa . It was alovely day on Mossy Bottom Farm, and for

once no one was getting into trouble. Well,

not serious trouble, e t oug t as e spotte

Mower Mouth the goat munching through

one corner o t e arn. Exasperate , S aun

nudged Bitzer. The last time the goat had

chewed a hole in the barn, pigeons had staged

a mi nig t ro ery, stea ing woo to ine t eir

Bitzer, however, was lost in music. Eyes

shut, he rocked out to the tunes coming fromhis headphones.

Bitzer opened one eye and sighed. A

sheepdog’s work was never done. At that moment, the Farmer opened the

farmhouse door. With a loud “Ahhh,” he took

a ung u o res air. A ter un o ing a

creaking deck chair, he slurped a mug of tea andthen opened a copy of the Mossy ottom Gazette,

grum ing as e scanne t e ront page.

at the ossy ottom Gazette. “AHA!” he saidagain, jabbing the page with a finger. After

dropping the newspaper, he hurried into

t e ouse.

Shaun’s eyes lit up with curiosity. Whathad the Farmer been reading to make him

rus o so quic y? He nu ge Bitzer again

and pointed.

Bitzer etc e t e paper. S aun pu eit out of his mouth and flicked through a

ew pages. Pigeons Steal Mr. Gravelly’s

Wig. He turne t e page. Have you seen

these pigeons? Underneath were pictures

o six i entica pigeons. Frowning, S aun

turned another page. “Baaaa” he muttered.

This must be it. The newspaper rustled

as e an Bitzer eane c oser.

Shaun hid the newspaper as the Farmer

returned with two glittering sequinedjackets: one gold, one silver. “Hmm,” the

Farmer muttered holdin u first one then

After tossing the silver jacket away, he

pulled the gold one on over his old sweater.

Shaun and Bitzer grinned at each other.

The Farmer was going to enter the contest!Both of them sniggered. Whenever he took

a bath, the Farmer sang like a cow with an

upset stomac . An e ance i e a pig on

roller skates! The Farmer’s antics were attracting

attention. One y one, t e F oc pee e

over the top of the wall. They were joined by

curious c ic ens. The pigs peered over their wall and

pointed as the Farmer fumbled through the

poc ets o is go en jac et. Ta-diddly-a-

tum-bah-DAH!” he announced, holding up a

pac et o a oons. He pu e out a pin one

and stretched it, giving the rabbits a smile.

“Ba-ba-ba-buuuum,” he mumbled, pushing

one en into is ear.

The rabbits’ jaws fell open. Half-eaten

carrots dropped to the ground. The long pink balloon was growing

bigger. Red-faced and panting, the Farmer

was owing it up wit is ear!

The grin dropped from Shaun’s face. Heand Bitzer blinked at each other and then

stare at t e Farmer. He a a ta ent a ter

all! An amazing talent.

“TA-DAAAA!” t e Farmer crie ,holding up a balloon model of a small

dog. It had a wonky head and only

t ree egs, one o w ic was twice as ong

as the others. Or maybe it isn’t such

an amazing talent after all, S aun

thought.

The rabbits stared, completely bewildered.

T e pigs starte snic ering.

When the Farmer noticed that his model

looked like an accident in a sausage factory,he harrumphed, threw it over his shoulder,

and stomped back inside.

of walking down a red carpet. Patting her

her own perfume, she decided. It would becalled BEAUTY SHEEP: EWE DE TOILETT

BY TIMMY’S MUM.

electric guitar. In his mind, his band, Bitand the Bones, rocked out before an audie

o t ousan s o screaming ans.

One of the Twins closed his eyes, picturi

imse oo ing t oug t u an moo y on tcover of Celebrity Sheep magazine. A hat wo

be a good idea, he decided. Yes, a hat — wi

ruit on it.

meadow. Or was she? Shaun rubbed his eyes.Usually only cake could get Shirley moving,

and yet now she was throwing herself around

Chickens! Shaun thought. Why do they

have to be so cruel? Crossing his front legs,he tapped a hoof at them. If they were so

talented, why didn’t t ey put on a show?

T e c ic ens went into a u e, sti

sniggering. For a while, only a low cluckingcould be heard, along with the occasional

bu- iiiir o c ic en gigg ing. T en a

rooster, chest puffed up, emerged from the

group as a en i te up a oom ox. Wit aflick of her wing, she hit the play button.

A heavy beat filled the meadow. “Boc-

boc-boc-urrr , rappe t e ens, swaying

from one foot to the other. The rooster

somersau te . Legs w ir ing, e an e on a

wing tip, then flipped to his feet, bobbing in

time with the music. After diving forward,

e spun on is ea , t en e into a pose,

S aun gu pe . Uh-oh. He in e anlooked around. Every sheep in the Flock

was gaping at the chickens. Bitzer, Shaun

notice , a misse t e w o e t ing. His ace

screwed up with effort, he was still on his

nees per orming a guitar so o. T e crow in

his head was going wild.

Shaun looked back at the rooster and

s ow y no e . He wasn’t going to e eaten

The chickens folded their wings. The

rooster crowed scornfully. His meaning was clear: Sheep couldn’t perform. When was

the last time a sheep had a hit single or sold

out a sta ium concert? A s eep were goo

at was looking stupid and eating grass.Shaun scowled and nodded again

ecisive y. T e arm wou ave its own

talent show. Sheep versus chickens. The

compet t on was on.
