MACHINE TYPESMACHINE TYPES

A shear machine includes a table with support arms to hold the sheet metal.

The sheet is placed between the upper and lower blade, which are then forced together against the sheet, then cutting the material.

The lower blade remains stationary while the upper blade is forced downward

the upper blade is usually angled so that the cut progresses from one end to the other, thus reducing the required force.

SAFETYSAFETY

1. Never start the machine unless all guards are in place and properly adjusted.

2. Ensure the foot control pedal is properly protected against accidental activation.

3. Be aware of all dangerous moving machinery parts.

4. Keep the work area clean. Foreign materials may cause poor footing.

5. Give the control selector keys to supervisor during the operation.

6. All personnel must be away from shear table before operation.

SAFETYSAFETY

7. Do not allow personnel to reach under rear barrier to retrieve material while machine is running.

8. Use hand tools whenever possible.9. Make sure awareness barrier is in place at the

rear of the machine.10. De-energize and lockout all energy systems

before making adjustments/repairs.11. Do not wear gloves, jewelry, or loose clothing.12. Ensure that operator is properly trained and has

read owner’s operation manual.
