SHEESHAM FURNITURE

When buying furniture it pays to seek out quality. After all, furniture should last you a lifetime, or at least quite a few years. There is no point spending money on shoddy, poorly made furniture that is likely to fall to bits after a short time or be an eyesore in your home.

SHEESHAM TABLES – WHERE TO THEY COME FROM ?

Sheesham furniture is made in India from a type of wood called Indian Rosewood, or Shisham. This is also sometimes referred to by the tree’s botanical name, Dalbergia sissoo. Indian Rosewood is regarded as an excellent wood for furniture making purposes. This is partly because of its hardwearing, durable qualities, but also because of its beautiful golden to dark brown appearance.

VARIATIONS OF SHEESHAM TABLES

One variant of traditional Indian furniture is jali, and some Sheesham tables incorporate this style. Jali is a distinctive style of decoration that is often seen in Indian architecture as well as furniture. It is a type of delicate lattice screen work that enhances the attractiveness of buildings and furniture, as well as being very recognizably Indian. The jali work when it is incorporated into furniture is sometimes made of wrought iron, and sometimes of wood, but in all cases it adds a dignified, aesthetic quality. It turns a merely functional, plain table into something more pleasing to the eye and a showpiece. Sheesham furniture includes chairs, tables, dressers, and many other items both large and small. sheesham bookcases
