Swinburne Faculty of Design has an ongoing project called “Science Island”. In groups, students are given a question and are asked to provide an animation, storybook and game to answer it. “The Colour Trip” answers the question “what is colour?”. The game is in the genre of endless runner, where a player is aiming to better their high score by collecting photons in the order of refraction ie, the rainbow.

Massacre In Melbourneinteractive website
Mock-up screen and final graphic art style
Massacre in Melbourne is designed to be a narrative walking tour of Melbounre’s CBD. Set in the 1950’s, the story will take you on a journey through time, featuring locations with dark histories from the 1800’s all the way to 2004. The story at each location is inspired by events that transpired there, although some facts have been edited to better fit the narrative.
Locations include the County Court of Victoria, the Old Melbourne Gaol, the Century Building and the Carlton Gardens. The entire tour can be completable in less than 3 hours, although if you stop to scope out and investigate more of a location it may take longer.

Job Inequality is a 3 minute film, shot in first person. The aim was to create an unequal work environment, without revealing that the subject of the film is a woman until the last moments. Although simple in concept, shooting in first person is a very technical process, and presented many challenges. The final edit included visual tricks and manipulations to create the illusion that you are viewing the world through the lead actress’s eyes.

These 3 flour sack animations are designed to showcase the 12 principles of animation. The subject was chosen to show expression and emotion without using a face. This created the challenge of showing multiple emotions, and changing emotions, with only the use of body language.

Suburban Ecology was a research project undertaken to explore the question “How can suburban gardens be designed to conserve our natural environment?”with a focus on local amphibians. It includes limited secondary research and extensive primary research in the form of rich pictures, user goals, interviews and goal models. The outcome from the research was that home-owners are interested in frogs, but do not know how to encourage them into their gardens.

Built in Maya, with custom lights and textures, The Alchemist is a 3D poster. Each model was built from scratch, textured, bumped and lit to create the illusion of magic. A 45 second showreel was also created and shows an entire breakdown of the project across each step.
