SHERWOOD ELEMENTARY PTO NEEDS YOU!

WHAT IS PTO? PTO is a Parent-Teacher Organization which supports local PTO’s at individual schools.

The overall purpose of PTO is to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering

families and communities to advocate for Sherwood Elementary students!

Sherwood Elementary has a new PTO Board this year. Our goal is to ensure that each parent joins and

becomes involved. We are committed to making PTO aware of many ways we can help our students,

teachers/ staff, parents of SHERWOOD ELEMENTARY!

Why does our school need a strong PTO??? Here are a few things we can accomplish:

Improve Communication: PTO’s frequently coordinate production of school newsletters and information fliers, keeping the entire school community informed of current events, issues, and accomplishments. Regular meetings allow PTO to share information with members.

See Measurable Results: Research studies conducted over the past 30 years indicate that children perform better in school when parents are involved. Studies show an increase in attendance, grades and test scores improve.

Raise Funds to Assist Students: PTO’s are self-funding. Membership fees pay for ready-made, easy-to-use programs. PTO fundraisers (carnival and field day), support Sherwood Elementary in school improvements and extracurricular educational events.

Build Student’s Self Esteem: PTO focuses on what students need to be successful in their daily learning environment and works to ensure that all students succeed.

More Parental Involvement: Involved parents understand the challenges schools face. Parents become part of the solution by developing a closer relationship with other parents and teachers. Student achievement improves and the school develops a positive reputation in the community.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Please complete the form below. Return it to your child’s teacher. You will be given a receipt for joining PTO and will be issued a Sherwood Elementary PTO membership card within two

weeks. The first classroom that has 100% paid memberships, will receive a prize.

Sincerely,

PTO Board
