CLASSES

Rough dressing will be allowed

Class SH1 LIVE TEAM SHOEING & SHOEMAKING. To be held on Wednesday 30 May. Time allowed – Shoeing 2 hours to shoe one horse; Shoemaking 1 hour 30 minutes to make four shoes from six sent out. Scores from both elements to be added together to produce the winning team. This class is restricted to the first 12 teams. Class SH2 RIDING PONY SHOEING To be held on Thursday 31 May. Time allowed 1 hour. Restricted to farriers who have not been placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd in any open shoeing competition in the last three years. This Class is restricted to 28 persons. The winner to receive The Fred Kent Perpetual Challenge Trophy (CO4). The highest placed competitor from the South West will receive The Richard Ash Perpetual Challenge Trophy (CO26). Class SH3 OPEN PONY SHOEING To be held on Thursday 31 May. Time allowed 1 hour 10 minutes. Competitors will be required to shoe two feet (one fore and one hind) and make one specimen shoe to the judge's requirements. This class will run concurrently with Riding Pony Shoeing (SH2), but with dedicated prizes. The combined class is restricted to 28 persons. The No.14 Region of the Pony Club Challenge Cup (CO5) and The Golden Guinea Challenge Trophy (CO3), offered by Messrs J R Parkington & Co Ltd to be awarded to the winner of the Open Pony Shoeing. Class SH4 OPEN SHOEMAKING COMPETITION To be held on Thursday 31 May and Friday 1 June. Time allowed 50 minutes. This Class is restricted to 28 persons. Class SH5 OPEN COB SHOEING To be held on Friday 1 June. Time allowed 1 hour 15 minutes. This Class is restricted to 28 persons. The winner to receive The H M Ball Memorial Challenge Trophy (CO1) and the Worshipful Company of Farriers Silver Medal. Class SH6 APPRENTICE SHOEMAKING COMPETITION By first and second year indentured Apprentices. To be held on Saturday 2 June. Time allowed 50 minutes. This Class is restricted to 20 persons and will use GAS. (No striker). The winner to receive the Worshipful Company of Farriers Bronze medal. Class SH7 APPRENTICE SHOEMAKING COMPETITION By third and fourth year indentured Apprentices. To be held on Saturday 2 June. Time allowed 50 minutes. This Class is restricted to 20 persons and will use GAS. (No striker). Class SH8 APPRENTICE THERAPEUTIC CLASS To be held on Saturday 2 June. Time allowed 50 minutes. Two shoes to be made to the judge's specifications. This Class is restricted to 20 persons and will use GAS. (No striker).

Class SH9 OPEN HUNTER SHOEING

To be held on Saturday 2 June. Time allowed 1 hour and 5 minutes. This Class is restricted to 28 persons. The winner to receive the The Crown and Thistle Perpetual Challenge Cup (CO2), offered by Messrs Miles, Druce Steel Ltd and the Worshipful Company of Farriers Silver Medal.

CHAMPION PRIZE

SHC0 For the Champion Farrier gaining the most points overall in Classes SH3, SH4, SH5 & SH9

The Sidmouth Trophy (CO8) and a Royal Bath & West Champion Tankard and Rosette. Reserve Champion - Royal Bath & West Reserve Champion Rosette. Points for the Championship are awarded as follows: 1st 14; 2nd 12; 3rd 10; 4th 8; 5th 6; 6th 4 In the event of a tie the result of the Open Shoemaking will be the deciding factor.

Shoeing & Shoemaking Regulations

Either enter on-line at www.bathandwest.com or complete the enclosed entry form and send it, together with your fee to the Entries Office, Bath & West Shows Limited, The Showground, Shepton Mallet BA4 6QN. Entries close 12 noon on 16 April. Cheques should be made payable to Bath & West Shows Ltd. No entries will be accepted after the entry close dates Please note: As a condition of your entry limited exhibitor information will appear in the catalogue and on the Society’s website.

Please see the Society’s website for full details of our privacy policy. After the close of entries, you will be sent a pack containing the following:

➢ A wristband to provide access to the Showground or, for Apprentices, one exhibitor’s ticket.

➢ A Blacksmith/Farrier Car Park pass to gain access to the designated parking/ camping area.

➢ A timetable of your class showing the running order.

➢ Any additional tickets which you purchased when entering.

Competitors must be in attendance at the Forge at least half an hour before the

commencement of their round. Latecomers will be disqualified.

The Presentation for the Live Team Shoeing and Shoemaking class will take place on Wednesday 30 May at the Forge and Exhibitors will forfeit their prize money if they are not in attendance at the presentation. Presentations for the Riding Pony Shoeing class, the Open Classes and the Apprentice Classes will take place on Saturday 2 June at the Forge and Exhibitors will forfeit their prize money if they are not in attendance at the presentation.

Entries: 1. Entries may be made:

(a) On the printed form contained in schedule, which should be forward with the correct fee to The Entries Office, Bath & West Shows Ltd, The Showground, Shepton Mallet BA4 6QN, to be received not later than 16 April

(b) Enter online at www.bathandwest.com ONLINE ENTRIES CLOSE 16 APRIL at

12:00noon. No entries will be accepted after this date. Please note : As a condition of your entry limited exhibitor information will appear in the catalogue and on the Society’s website. For classes run under Breed Society rules, your details will be verified with the society concerned to ensure your eligibility to enter.

Entries in the Shoeing Classes will be restricted as follows: - Class SH1, restricted to the first 12 teams. - Class SH2, restricted to the first 28 entrants - Class SH3, restricted to the first 28 entrants - Class SH4, restricted to the first 28 entrants - Class SH5, restricted to the first 28 entrants - Class SH6, restricted to the first 20 entrants - Class SH7, restricted to the first 20 entrants - Class SH8, restricted to the first 20 entrants - Class SH9, restricted to the first 28 entrants.

All Smiths must be registered with the Registration Council and their registration number must be shown on the entry form.

Prizes: 3. In no case shall a prize be awarded unless the Judge, after consultation with the Stewards,

deems the entries to have sufficient merit. Where there is only a small entry in a class and the Judge, after consultation with the Stewards, considers the exhibits unworthy of the highest prize offered, it shall be in their power to award a lower prize. The Judge's decision shall be final.

4. Prize money will be issued during the presentation on Saturday 2 June. 5. Exhibitors wishing to have trophies engraved should do so at their own cost but any engraving

must be similar in size, style and layout to previous engravings to ensure consistency. The Show will seek reimbursement for the cost of repairing any damage caused to trophies through mishandling or engraving.

Competitors in classes: 6. - SH1 – will be required to shoe one horse and make four shoes.

- SH2 - will be required to make two shoes to be fitted to the feet (one front, one hind).

- SH3 - will be required to make two shoes (one front, one hind).

- SH3, SH5 & SH9 - competitors to accept the feet allocated by the Stewards.

- SH4, SH6 & SH7 - will be required to make two shoes to the Judge's specification.

- SH5 - a Smith may be required to hand fuller a shoe.

- SH8 - two shoes to be made to the Judge's specifications.

- SH9 - the hind shoe to be a caulk and wedge. 7. Details of the shoe required will be available on the Bath & West website. 8. Competitors must be in attendance at the Forge at least half an hour before the

commencement of their round. Latecomers will be disqualified.

9. (a) The Stewards will be responsible for timekeeping and will enter details on the Time Sheet which will be displayed under the clock in the Shoeing Shed.

(b) All work must be completed in the time specified. Any competitor going over the

specified time will be disqualified. No waiting time will be allowed. 10. Competitors must provide their own nails and tools. 11. Each competitor must make his own arrangements for a striker. The striker's name must be

shown on the entry form. The competitions cannot be delayed for a striker who is acting as a striker for another competitor, or where the competitor is himself a striker and under these circumstances the Stewards may disqualify the competitor.

12. Forges, anvils and vice, iron and fuel will be provided by the Show.

13. In this clause, the term Exhibitor shall include persons taking part in any competition or display arranged by the Show, and the owner of any animal, plant, machinery or other thing involved in any such competition or display or otherwise exhibited on the Showground. Save for death or personal injury caused by the negligence of the Show, its servants or agent, the Show will not be responsible for death, injury, disease, damage or loss caused to any exhibitor or to his or her servant or agent or to any animal, article, plant, machinery or thing of whatever nature brought onto the Showground by the said exhibitor from whatever cause death, injury, disease, damage or loss arises. (See also Reg. 14).

14. The Show will not be responsible in any way for any article, plant, machinery or object of any

kind exhibited on the Showground. The exhibitor shall assume full responsibility therefore, including liability for all claims arising out of the exhibition, handling or housing of such exhibits and the conduct of the stand generally. The exhibitor shall indemnify the Show against all claims, damages or expenses whatsoever in any way arising out of the presence of the exhibitor or his exhibits on the Showground. Acceptance of the foregoing provisions shall be a condition of entry.

15. Non-competing farriers must not be on the floor whilst a class is in progress. Objections: 16. Any Exhibitor wishing to lodge an objection having reference to an entry exhibited at the Show

must make the same in writing to the Show Office, and deposit the sum of £50. If on investigation the objection is not sustained to the satisfaction of the Stewards, the sum thus deposited shall at the discretion of the Council, be forfeited to the funds of the Show. All objections must be delivered at the Show Office on the Showground on the day on with the award is made, and no objection will be SUBSEQUENTLY received, unless a satisfactory reason be assigned for the delay. The Stewards will consider such objections at the Show Office, at which time and place any person making the objection must attend or be represented by an authorised agent. The decision of the Stewards shall be final.

17. The Show reserves the sole and absolute right to interpret these or any other prescribed conditions and regulations, or Prize Sheets, and to settle arbitrarily and determine all matters, questions or differences in regard thereto, or otherwise arising out of or connected with or incident to the Show. Also to refuse and to cancel any entries, disqualify exhibitors, prohibit exhibition of entries, vary or cancel awards of prizes or reserve numbers, and relax conditions, as the Show may deem expedient.

Health & Safety Regulations: 18. Competitors are to comply with Health & Safety regulations and MUST provide and use their

own Personal Protective Equipment. 19. Exhibitors are reminded that they must conform to the requirements of the Health and Safety

at Work Act 1974 and other relevant Health and Safety legislation. Exhibitors must also comply to The Equalities Act 2010 (formerly The Disability and Discrimination Act); the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005; the Health Act 2006 incorporating the Smoke Free Legislation. Environmental Health Officers, Trading Standard Officers and Fire Officers will be in attendance at the Show and have the authority to take appropriate enforcement action.

20. Smoking is prohibited in all buildings.
