PRODUCTION PLANT and STANDAR QUALITY’S In 1908 Luis Calvo Sanz, inherited the family business, a grocer’s shop.

The factory that Calvo opened in 1976, allow them to increase production exceeding a million boxes 10 years later. Company growth was caused by the opening of new factories and their international expansion.

In 1993 the Nostromo branch is purchased in Italy, nowadays the second one in the Italian market.

In 2003 it is opened the Calvo tuna plant in El Salvador, which supply the Central America, Mexican and United States markets.

In 2004, they purchased Gomes da Costa in Brazil, leading company in the canned fish industry.

MISSION , VISION, VALUE

Grupo Calvo has its own fleet compound of 8 purse seine vessels, 3 merchant ships and 2 support vessels. They fish tropical species (in no case bluefin tuna)in tropical waters and in coastal countries of the eastern Atlantic Ocean, the eastern Pacific Ocean and the western Pacific Ocean. Its fishing technique take advantage of the tuna tendency to create shoals. Once the purse seine vessel docks, the transshipment to merchant freezer ships of Grupo Calvo. Calvo only uses products that have been caught according to the regulations of the international institutions that promote sustainable and responsible fishing. In addition, Grupo Calvo is a pioneer company in the adoption of best practices for sustainable fishing and in the implementation of its own tuna fishing sustainability policy.

BACKGROUND

International expansion has been a priority.

In 2003, El Salvador was the starting point. Nowadays, Calvo produces an output that is able to supply American and European markets.

In the Brazilian market, the group essentially works in the sardine and tune canned segment, what represents 47% of the group volume. But, furthermore the importance of that market, the landing in Brazil with the purchase of 100% of Gomes da Costa is producing an intense arrival in the rest of Latin America: Costa Rica in the North, Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay and Argentina in the South. Colombia is the next objective.

Nowadays, despite this sector crisis with companies closures and mergers, Grupo Calvo has prospered thanks to an strategy that implies changes in its own internal structure and support of internationalisation.
