1. General

This single stage Short Path Distillation unit KDL 5 for laboratory purposes is designed for manually operation in Non-Ex-Area, only. The KDL 5 is designed for distillation of substances with a viscosity up to approx. 2000 mPas at distillation temperature. The typical feed rate range from 0.5 to 1.5 kg/h (depending on product and application). The scope of delivery comprises those components which are indicated in the referring quotation. All pictures in this specification are example pictures of KDL 5 plant/components for better illustration. The pictures might not cover all details or show the complete or identical scope of supply.

2. Distillation Units

D.1 Partly Heatable Evaporator Glass apparatus with double jacket for heating the evaporator surface with heat transfer oil. The apparatus is for distillation of low viscous substances which are liquid at ambient temperature. Including internal spiral condenser Including flanged cold trap made of borosilicate glass for liquid nitrogen or dry ice. The cold trap is separable for convenient cleaning. DC.1 Direct Cooled Cold Trap -80°C Special design of the glass cold trap with an immersion cooling finger made of stainless steel. The cold finger can flanged to the glass cold trap, Sealing material FPM The cold trap replaces the standard cold trap and avoids the handling with liquid nitrogen or dry ice. Therefore, it eases the operation of the KDL 5. Compressor cooling unit with 1 m flexible cooling media pipe, minimum nominal temperature -80°C, the achievable minimum t emperature in operation is not measured and is depending on the application and site conditions, electrical power supply 230V, 50 Hz

3. Feed Systems

E.3 Gear Pump, Heatable Up To 200 °C, Product Feed Vessel 2.0 l Heatable feed gear pump system with drive motor, feed rate continuously adjustable between 0 and 1.8 l/h, maximum feed rate for permanent operation 1,2 l/h, product feed vessel, double jacket, volume 2 l, heatable with heating oil up to a maximum temperature of T < 200°C. Roller wiper system with drive motor (230V, 50/60 Hz) and continuously adjustable speed (200 - 500 rpm) digital display of the wiper speed. Manual stopcock between feed vessel and gear pump. E.4 Dosing Pump, Non-Heatable For Low Viscose Materials 1 Solenoid dosing pump, product wetted parts in the pump head PVDF, PTFE and ceramic, adjustable stroke length 0 - 100%, with digital display (l/h) max. 2 l/h, max. viscosity 500 mPas, max. product temp. 35 °C, 230 V 50/60 Hz inxluding, 1 PTFE feed pipe with overflow valve The pump is able to suck in product from a vessel or container located below the pump. Roller wiper system with drive motor (230V, 50/60 Hz) and manually adjustable speed (200 - 500 rpm), digital display of the wiper speed. A.9 Gear Pump For Discharge, Heatable Up To 200 °C Two gear pumps for discharge of distillate and residue, with drive motor and power converter (230 V, 50/60 Hz), pumping speed continuously adjustable between 0 and 1.8 l/h, maximum pumping speed for continuos operation 1l/h. The gear pumps are equipped with a heatable head plate, outlet pipe (8mm) and spring loaded outlet valve (product wetted sealing material FPM) The discharge system is heatable up to a maximum temperature of 200 °C (higher temperatures on request !).

5. Vacuum Pump Sets

V.1 Rotary Vane Pump Set set of components, consisting of: � rotary vane pump, two-stage, oil-sealed, suction capacity approx. 2,5 m³/h, with first filling with vacuum pump oil, power supply: 230 V, 50/60 Hz � vacuum measuring device (according to Pirani prinicple) with vacuum gauge and digital display, measuring range: 0.001 - 1000 mbar � dosing valve for dosed gas inlet � set of gaskets, small flange components, vacuum valves, tubes etc. Components are pre-assembled.

V.2 Rotary Vane Pump And Oil Diffusion Pump Set set of components, consisting of: � rotary vane pump, two-stage, oil-sealed, suction capacity approx. 2 m³/h, with first filling with vacuum pump oil, power supply: 230 V, 50/60 Hz � air-cooled diffusion pump, suction capacity approx. 60 l/s,

� vacuum measuring device (according to Pirani measuring principle), with vacuum gauge (wear and tear part) and digital display, measuring range 0,001 mbar - 1000 mbar � dosing valve for dosed gas inlet � set of gaskets, small flange components, vacuum valves, tubes etc. Components are pre-assembled. The pump set V.2 is equipped with bypass pipe and manual shut off valves around the oil diffusion pump.

Z.1 Additional Rotary Vane Pump 1 Double stage rotary vane pump, two stage, oil-sealed, suction capacity approx. 2 m³/h, with first filling with vacuum pump oil, for evacuation of the flasks of the discharge system A.3, A.4, A.5 or A.6 The rotary vane pump is equipped with a mechanical vacuum gauge (1-1000 mbar) as well as a shut-off valve, venting valve flexible vacuum hose.

6. Heating/Cooling Units

Note: Especially if operated at high temperatures smoke/smell might be produced during operation of heating units. We suggest to choose a closed heating system if permanent operation above 200°C i s planned.

VH.2 Heating Device For The Evaporator, 80 - 350°C � Circulation thermostat with digital temperature adjustment and

numeric display, including circulation pump � The control and operation unit is separated form the heating bath � Operation temperature range heating unit : 80 - 350°C � Power connections: 230 V, 50 Hz � 1 container of heat transfer oil based on Therminol, volume 10l, maximum operation temperature in a closed bath unit: T < 345 °C (higher temperature on request) � incl. 2 flexible, thermo-insulated tubes made of stainless steel to connect thermostat and evaporator

Note: Cooling water required for operation at temperatures more than 200°C.

VH.K External Cooling Unit For Heating Unit VH.2 � External cooling system consisting of an cooling water bath with heat echanger coil

through which hot oil from VH.2 unit can be circulated and thereby cooled. The cooling down of the VH.2 is thereby accelerated. Valves for hot oil and cooling water will be automatically operated vial the controller of VH.2

� This unit requires a suitable cooling water supply (clean without impurities)

7. General Equipment

G.3 Mobile Rack, For Max. 4 Heating Devices Rack for all components of the plant (but max. 4 heating devices), mobile, with 4 steerable wheels. Size of the rack [LxWxH] = 1.6 x 0,6 x 1,95 m (The overall size of the plant depends on the selected configuration).

KW.1 Cooling Water Distribution System Cooling water distribution system consisting of 1 distribution part, individual ball valves (for

switching on/off of the cooling water supply) for each heating unit, suitable for max. 4 heating units, 1 common collector for the return flow and flexible hoses to connect all parts inside the skid.

NOTE: The customer has to connect the cooling water inlet via hose nozzle (13 mm) to a suitable cooling water supply (clean without impurities). Under certain circumstances the return flow of cooling water can be hot (>100°C) an d contain vapour flashes (>1 bar g), therefore the return flow must be led to a safe drain system which is open to atmosphere.

P.1 Touch & Splash Protection Made Of Polycarbonate Designed for G.3 1 two wing splash protection door made of transparent, impact-resistant polycarbonate. Note: If the plant is operated under vacuum and/or an evaporator temperature above 60°C, a touch and splash protection shield has to be used e.g. by placing the unit inside a fume chamber with safety shield. Otherwise P.1 has to be offered by UIC GmbH.

L.1 Power Distribution Electrical power distribution box with main switch, emergency shut-off and restart-protection. Power connection: 400 V, 50/60 Hz, (3L, N, PE), 32 A CEE–plug on a 3m cable According to the EG directive “Machinery“ appendix II B an electrical power distribution box with main switch and emergency shut-off has to be installed if the total power consumption of the unit exceeds 3.5 kW.

8. Further Specifications And Conditions

Exclusions The scope of UIC GmbH's services and supplies is defined in the aforementioned specification. All other services and supplies are not covered under this proposal and must be arranged by the buyer. Specifically not included in our scope of delivery are all parts and performances as follows: � media supply for the plant, � auxiliary substances e. g. liquid nitrogen, dry ice or cooling water, � exhaust piping of vacuum systems, venting system / fresh air supply � thermal insulation � CE-Conformity (optionally available on request) � suitability for ex-area

Suitability For A Specific Application The suitability of the plant for a specific application is subject to a verification in the UIC-laboratory in Alzenau-Hörstein.

Codes & Standards Major plant parts will be supplied from Germany, unless otherwise specified. This equipment will be designed and manufactured according to German codes (DIN, AD-Merkblätter, VDE, UVV) and standard metric system. If it is necessary to manufacture the plant or parts of the plant according to any other code or standard, this has to be agreed on in each individual case. Expenses for such services will be charged according to the actual spent resources. UIC-GmbH uses only components and suppliers which are qualified according to the quality management system of UIC-GmbH. Other brands or supplier are optionally available on special request.

Assembly / Supervision Of Assembly Assembly and supervision of the assembly are not part of this specification. We recommend a separate assembly supervision contract which could be signed on the basis of separate charges according to our current "Assembly Costs Abroad" For all activities on site without UIC's supervision, UIC GmbH can not be held responsible for any damages caused by improper handling of the equipment.

Warranty Period: 12 months after delivery

Technical Modification UIC GmbH reserves the right for technical modification if this further improves the technical, economical and safe functioning of the product.
