The name of the society was changed to "The Danish Shortwave Club International" by the Annual General Meeting of May 18, 1996.The object of the DSWCI is to consolidate contacts among practisers of the hobby indicated as DX-ing and to promote the practise of this hobby in general. Editorial

Greve, November 3rd 2013

Dear friends, members and read-ers all over the World! Welcome again to a big issue of SWN, the last big one this year. This issue of SWN is in your hands one week earlier than usual, because my wife and I are going on a long vacation for almost three weeks to Burma (Myanmar) and Bangkok, and we are leaving next Sunday. I will bring a small portable radio with me, so hopefully I will have at least a little time to do some radio listening. In the August issue we published a questionnaire, which we asked you to return to us. Thank you very much for the 87 an-swered questionnaires; we have received back from our mem-bers! That is from amazing 36% of our total membership. They arrived from no less than 22 countries in four continents, prov-ing our very international membership! “ (-Anker). The Board will in the coming weeks analyze the many, inter-esting inputs. In connection to the questionnaire, many mem-bers also wrote some personal comments re. our club, those will be published in the next issue Do you remember my editorial in the May/June issue where I wrote how I obtained a QSL from Radio Brocken thanks to our good friend Eckhard Röscher? Now I can tell you a similar sto-ry – or rather two – of the same kind. Some years ago I report-ed Radio Farda several times, but did not get any answer. Now I knew that our good friend and member, Arto Mujunen, Fin-land, had some good connections to the U.S. government runned stations. We see each other every year at the EDXC Conference, at such a conference I asked him to help me, and within a short time I got a full date letter QSL.

The same was the case

when I reported St. Peters-burg Regional Center in

vain. Then I asked our Rus-sian member, Alexander

Beryozkin to help me, be-cause he is in contact with

Mikhail Timofejev, who was in charge o the programme.

.At our AGM this year our Russian member Omar

Cheisvili attended, and he brought with him a full date

QSL card and a pennant. Again it shows, just as I wrote

in my former edi-torial, that good

friendship is gold worth. Thank you

so much to Arto and Alexander for

helping me.

With this, I send you all my best wishes with very good DX-

until the next deadline. Best 73’s Kaj

DSWCI Short Wave News – November 2013 13

Medium Wave News By Ray Browell

[email protected]

Australia I have just recently returned from a ten day stay in

Victor Harbor SA AUS (17/9/13 to 27/9/13) and while there when time permitted, I checked out the AM Band. Victor Harbor has no local AM, though 1125kHz 5MU Murray Bridge SA AUS provides a "near" local signal. I also discovered the 5MU office, just a short walk from the motel where I was staying. Some of the Adelaide SA AM stations (729kHz 5RN, 891kHz 5AN and 972kHz 5PB) are quite strong in Victor Harbor. The other Adelaide AM stations can all be received in Victor Harbor, but the signals are not as strong. This even includes 5RTI on 531kHz. China China Radio International has grossly expanded its

German service, effective 23 Sep. It broadcasts now ten hours a day, using the 1440 kHz transmitter in Luxembourg in two blocks, 0600-1100 and 1800-2300 UT (times will be one UT hour later as of 27 Oct): http://german.cri.cn/1837/2013/09/24/1s204512.htm This also supersedes French and English that have been broadcast on 1440 after 2000 so far. Shortwave schedules remain unchanged, i.e. the additional hours are on 1440 only. Obviously considerable efforts have been put into the new programming. It is widely considered as pretty well made, and has already been recognized as a former Deutsche Welle editor (!). Kai Ludwig via DXLD Voice of Strait with the weekly Saturday (Sept 28) program “Focus on China” from 1500 to 1530; now with a more modern, updated format; now frequent IDs, whereas in the past only gave a few; "You can tune in to MW 666 or FM 97.9"; "You are now listening to Focus on China, a Voice of Strait broadcast station"; some IDs given by native speaker of English; news items (People’s Bank of China has announced it will expand the e-cash inter-bank transfer services, etc.); 1530 ID for "This is the Voice of Taiwan Strait News Radio." Netherlands Just to let you know that your DSWCI member

in Amsterdam. The Netherlands ordered the AM-frequency 828 khz (20 kW daytime; 5 kw night time) to be closed down last Monday. The Sunday the week before programming of Radio 10 Gold ceased to be aired through this AM-frequency. For a week, a message was aired on the AM that 10 had moved to FM-frequencies throughout the country. For 7 years I've been running the Dutch national FM-station 100% NL. Recently we acquired another national FM-network; also acquired the well known Dutch radio station Radio 10 Gold (which was broadcasting on AM 828 khz in the last 3 years); changed the name of ' Radio 10 Gold' into 'Radio 10' ; put the station on the national FM-network; and closed down the AM transmitter. AM DX-ers in the Netherlands are now able again to listen to the German station NDR on 828; as well as Magic AM from the UK; which is also broadcasting on 828 khz AM. Many Thanks to Herbert Visser

USA 1640 WKSH WI Sussex Silent pending sale by Disney

as of 9-29. 1680 KRJO*LA Monroe OLD C&W "Country Legends 1680", dropping OLD R&B 9-27 1640 KOAG*OK Enid 2b OLD "True" starting Mon 9-30 9-27 FormatFlips via DXLD

WKSH 1640 WI has gone silent --- times EDT. Milwaukee's Radio Disney pulled the plug sometime yesterday afternoon (I think). They should be silent while looking for a buyer. This means the Portland area station is now the only Disney on this channel and they should be widely heard. Hopefully Oregon just became easier for those further east. Conditions are very good for high latitudes these past couple of days and we still have two more evenings of potentially great end of Sept SSS to look forward to. KDZR will switch from 10 kW day power to 1 kW night power at 2230 EDT for two more days. Last night here in IL, Disney started showing up on 1640 at about 2217 and was often dominant atop KOAG/WTNI/KBJA until they reduced power, but as usual I couldn't get any local material or ID. KDIA was not noted but they switch pattern at 2215. Later on, Disney would occasionally surface and actually come atop, but I can't copy what should have been an ID during their breaks about 2 minutes before ToH, when other audible Disney's (1260, 1690) IDed.Does anyone know, when other than a couple minutes prior to ToH, Disney's typically go into local breaks and have ads and possibly an ID Neil Kazaross, Barrington IL, Sept 29, ABDX via WORLD OF RADIO 1689, DXLD

4765.00, R Progreso Cadena Nacional, La Habana, now begins its Tropical Band broadcasts on 4765 starting at 0030 UTC with the popular music show Nocturno, and the broadcast ends at 0400 UTC with the late evening news. Transmitter power is registered at 50 kW and a classic high departure angle antenna is used as required for the Near Vertical Incidence Skywave transmissions. (Dxersunlimited blog via Rodríguez). Heard many days in October, 0057-0402v*, music, but mostly Spanish talk, including ID: “Radio Progreso, Cadena Nacional”, fading in while Tajik R on 4765.09 was fading out causing slight heterodyne, signed off with national anthem, weaker than Rebelde on 5025 (50 kW) and R Habana Cuba on 5040 (100 kW). Thus their transmitting power is not yet 50 kW, rather about 10 kW. An e-mail from Arnie Coro tells, that the transmitter in use is a 48 years old Ukranian built Snieg'50, an air cooled 50,000 watts plate modulated rig, that is kept in pristine conditions, to such an extent that it looks like having arrived to Cuba a few months ago. The antenna is a Nadenenko type dipole, a very efficient broadband dipole that has a very nice horizontal and also a nice vertical radiation pattern. The following ID’s were heard at 2200 with good strength "Radio Equatorial Guinea, Bata" and ”Radio Bata”, followed by something like “R Bata, Ici …. Radio Diffusion Television Bata”. The language sounded at this time like a mix of mostly French, some Spanish and native. By the way, this is often the case like in Paraguay or Suriname where the languages spoken in the country are mixed when people talk. At 2201 again into Nigerian pop music, Spanish comments by man and woman with short speech ”..a notre pais..”, 33333. Nothing noted Oct 03. (Méndez) 6045, XVRB, The Music Museum, Nauen, 0900-1000, Su Oct 20, was their last broadcast on the third Su in English. The Music Museum is about to merge with Shortwave Rock 6045! Considering it takes a lot of time and effort to maintain a website, answer DX mails and send e-QSL cards to SW radio fans, the decision was made to collaborate with the Shortwave Rock 6045 station, also heard on 6045. The merger is a practical action, taken to offer some more service to our audience, especially the DX fans who’ve sent us their reception reports. The XVRB brand is not going to vanish, as in the future we are going to rebuild the format, trying to reach the American shortwave market. We don’t know when this project will start. XVRB 6045 The Music Museum has been on air since Aug 2010. We’ve had a beautiful time, together with all you guys and girls who send us your e-mails and reception reports. Mike Wilson will start a new programme on Shortwave Rock 6045, presenting his first hour on the station on Su Nov 17 at 1000-1100 on 6045 via Nauen. (Ivanov in DX Re Mix no. 802 extra, Oct 25) 6070, Channel 292, Rohrbach. At the moment we are on air with the control transmitter and 1200 Watts. In the works are: Stand-by-transmitter with 2500 Watts, Solid-state, Linear amp.

21 DSWCI Short Wave News – November 2013

The 9 kW power supply (50 Volts, 170 A) is already prepared. We hope the main transmitter will work by the middle of December. The existing antenna should be okay for 20 kW, but a new coax wire and balun are required. The wire is already here, the balun finished, but not yet tested. The name Radio 6150 is of course not appropriate for 6070 kHz, anyhow it was only for testing purposes. The whole project will be named Channel 292, maybe some still have an old QSL. The new web page is www.channel292.de. (R 6150, Oct 14). Heard at 1959, Oct 18, music, 45444. (Cheishvili) 6190/7265/9480, MV Baltic R, Göhren, 1000-1130, Sa Oct 26, very good signals USB & carrier starting on 6190, followed by 7265 and finally 9480 kHz. No test on 15 MHz planned today. Their new antenna seems to work fine. Heard them here in Germany using a Tecsun PL-880, which seemingly is quite a good little portable dx receiver. Especially when using an external antenna (like a selective magnetic loop). (Bueschel and Kuhl in DXplorer). I also heard MV Baltic R testing in USB + carrier on 7265 here in Skovlunde, near Copenhagen, at 1213-1216*, Oct 26, with SINPO 55555! I used my usual AOR AR7030PLUS with 28 metres external longwire. When it had signed off, I heard weak signals (QSA 1-2) from China Business R, Xianyang on 7265 // Beijing on 6155 and 9620. (Petersen) GREECE

(Pankov) The degradation of Greek Radio is going on, having SW radio "Voice of Greece" as a victim. This includes 39 shortwave antenna masts hosted in Avlis, which the government plans to sell as scrap metal. The SW service started 75 years ago and it is still transmitting in 5 frequencies that cover the globe with shows in Greek for expatriates and foreign language news. The facilities are currently controlled by redundant ERT employes and broadcast the guerilla service of the Greek National Radio ERA. Eighteen months ago, shortwave facilities in Thessaloniki were dismantled. (thegreekradio.com via Liangas) GUATEMALA
