Performing on Stage

Give your students the opportunity to expand their dancing by becoming another charcter--perform a showdance.

Dancing in a theater is an experience no dancer should miss. The stage provides lessons that simply cannot be learned on a studio floor.

SHOWCASE MONTGOMERRY COLLEGE AUGUST 24, 2013

Ballroom Dance as TheaterWhy isn’t ballroom seen onstage?

We are dancers. We teach great lessons and (hopefully) inspire great performances from our partners and student body. But great performances require more than great dancing. Most of us as independent teachers or studio owners are not experienced or rich enough to produce a dance performance--a full theatrical show--and our students miss the great experience of performing onstage. Instead, we hold in-house studio recitals and pursue competitive events, where our dancing and students are seen amid throngs of other dancers and our performance may be overlooked. How often has a great student dancer said, “I love dance, but I really don’t like to compete.” Or how often has a student wanted to perform, but did not yet have the repertoire required for attendance at a competitive event. How often do in-house student showcase lack in production value and overall experience for the performers? It does not have to be so.

The franchise dance studios have discovered how lucrative showdance performances can be. Several studios pool their resources of performers and capital to create a theatrical event. The students revel in their opportunity to be onstage as a star. The better the experience is, the more apt that student is to continue in his dancing pursuit: investing in lessons, coaching, costuming, etc.

Affinity Ballroom believes that like-minded independent studios and instructors can do likewise. We have employed a production company to manage our showcase as a theatrical event. We invite others join us. Help us bring Ballroom to your community stage, and give your students the experience of a lifetime!
