Company History• At age 15, while his parents were busy managing their Branson, Missouri

resort, Mike Ingram decided to bide the time by opening a fireworks stand. He had no experience selling fireworks, no place to store them, and no shelter to sell them from, but after mailing in his order to Goodman Fireworks in Little Rock, Arkansas, there was really no turning back.

• Built from scrap lumber Mike was given from the local lumber yard, his first stand was pieced together from little more than determination. But even in its humble construction, the stand was an instant hit. The next summer, Mike bought more fireworks and built more stands until his business had grown enough to expand to nearby Springfield, Missouri.

• Upon graduating from college in 1971, Mike bought out his wholesaler and formed Mid-American Fireworks, which is known today as Fireworks Over America—one of the largest importers and distributors of consumer fireworks in the United States.

The discovery of gunpowder and the invention of the first fireworks (bamboo cases or rolled paper tubes filled with explosives) are traditionally credited to the Chinese, although India could also be an influential source. Firecrackers first started crackling approximately 1,000 years ago with a belief that the loud banging would ward off evil spirits. Events such as births, deaths, weddings or New Year celebrations were common occasions for their use. Fire works were traced to Europe as early as the 13th century. Crusaders were likely to have brought them back from the east. Fireworks were widely used for religious events and public entertainment. Italians were among the first Europeans to manufacture fireworks and they were masters at that craft. Their wares were used all over Europe by the end of the 17th century. Early Settlers brought fireworks to the New World. Black powder was fired to celebrate holidays and impress the natives. However, in the colony of Rhode Island, pranksters caused enough problems that in 1731, a ban was issued for the mischievous use of fireworks. Fireworks had been a part of celebrating important events by the time of the American Revolution. Many of the founding fathers and countrymen, thought of fireworks when independence was declared. Fireworks were part of the celebrations when the first Independence Day was held in 1777.

Tips on How to Build a ShowRule #1—Be Safe!First and foremost, keep your audience safe by seating them a good distance from the firing area. And of course, be sure to have the following on hand when lighting your show: •Bucket of Water or Fire Extinguisher•Safety Glasses•Flash LightsRead our section on Safety here. Rule #2—Know Your FireworksEach item is unique in how it performs and for the best show, you’ll want to incorporate as many different effects as possible—mines, brocades, palms, color bursts, willows, etc. Our Fireworks Supermarket employees are well-trained pyro technicians and will be happy to tell you the difference between effects.

Rule #3—Plan Your Show This is a simple step. Start small and get big! You always want to start

your show off with smaller items and work up to your Grand Finale. We suggest starting with fountains. They last several minutes and can help prolong your show. Suggested Fountains: Solar Storm, Mystic Rain, Electric Rainbow, Havana Heat, Lava Lamp and Thunder Snow. For the Grand Finale, go as big as your budget allows. This is the moment your audience will remember the most! Finale Suggestions: Chain Reaction, Toxic Rain, Bad Attitude, Space Banger or Mind Games.

Rule #4—Set Up Your Show It is always important to set your product on a hard, level surface. To

shoot your show without delays you can align your product in rows. Keep a safe distance between rows so you can light each product safely

Rule #5—Prepare For Ignition Remove the tape covering the fuse and point all fuses in the same direction. This will allow you to walk in a straight line when lighting the product. Be sure to follow the instructions listed on each and every item. Some might suggest which side of the product should face the crowd for the best visual display. Rule #6—Use a Reliable Lighting Source Although punks work well they could slow down your show. We suggest you buy a grill lighter. This should allow you to light your fireworks safely and with minimal effort. Rule #7—Have a Fun and Safe Fourth of July!
