Our Vision is to transform this site into something new and exciting that is commercially viable and brings real economic, social and environmental

benefits to the local community and East Kent.

A place to work, live and play.

The ideas we are presenting to you are still at an early stage and will be developed, but give an indication of our aspirations.

Its really important to us that we get it right and we would like your help to ensure this. So please let us have your feedback (supportive or otherwise) by completing a feedback form, contacting us via our website, or speaking to one of the team today. Your feedback is extremely important to us and will be used to refine the plans over the next few months. We intend to hold a follow-on exhibition in the Autumn where we will report back to you on the feedback received and present more detailed proposals.

Members of our team (Masterplanner, Town Planner, Transport Planner, and Environmental/Technical advisors) are here today to answer any queries that you might have.

    Many thanks

    THE SITE

    SITE PHOTOS

The site extends to approximately 750 acres.

It is previously developed and accommodates numerous buildings and areas of hardstanding associated with its former airport use

The condition of the existing buildings is generally poor with most having reached the end of their economic life

Whilst there will be some environmental, technical, and landscape issues to contend with, our early research suggests there are no insurmountable constraints

    Excellent connections:

    Adjacent to A299 dual-carriageway

Planned parkway station on the High-Speed line to London

Opportunities to provide new bus, cycle, and pedestrian links

Access to international markets via Channel ports (20 miles), Channel Tunnel (at Folkestone and Ashford) (35 miles)

We have undertaken considerable research into former airport sites across the UK and Europe that have been successfully developed and re-purposed to make new communities. Though our research continues, we are identifying current best practice and lessons that we can learn from them. Three examples are highlighted below:

CASE STUDY 2Flugfeld Boblingen Stuttgart, Germany

CASE STUDY 3Chapelford / Omega Warrington, UK

Structural framework of key routes and public spaces overlayed with residential and business areas

Green spaces used in high density areas to create a sense of openness

Social and private housing placed in close proximity create cohesive communities

    LESSONS WE CAN LEARN

Distinct character areas, with their own identity, achieve diversity across the site

    Integrated sustainable urban drainage systems

Simple grid layout and a range of housing types allows for flexibility across the development

    LESSONS WE CAN LEARN

Variety of uses including residential, commercial, manufacturing, and green space

Transport infrastructure links with integrated self-sufficient mix of accessible uses, are essential for new development

THE CORE INGREDIENTSOur experience and research is helping us to detail the core ingredients needed to fulfil our vision for Stone Hill Park. Binding it all together will be a network of wide open spaces, cultural and educational / research facilities - hearts and minds to unite the work, live and play.

TRANSLATING THE INGREDIENTSHow these ingredients come together is yet to be decided, but three possible approaches have emerged.
