CertificationUpdatesby Deanna Kabliska, PHR, SHRM-CP Certifications Chair

It was great to see so many of you at the WISHRM conference! DON’T FORGET to enter your recertification credits for your HRCI or SHRM certification if you attended the WISHRM conference. The Conference has been approved for 12 general recertification credits through HRCI and 12 SHRM PDC's. SPHR Certified Professionals have the opportunity to earn up to 7.5 Business Credits as pre-approved by HRCI. Attending the pre-conference session would offer an attendee an additional 3.5 recertification credits.

Recertification FAQ's Q: I do not have an activity ID. How do I enter my professional development credits (PDCs)? A: You may enter the event with or without an activity ID. If you do not have an activity ID, you just need to ensure that you can show how the event is related to the behavioral competencies and HR knowledge identified in the SHRM BoCK.

Q: Can I earn PDCs by being a SHRM Member? A: Yes. SHRM recognizes the value of joining the wider community of HR professionals. You can earn 3 PDCs per year, for a maximum total of 9 PDCs, during your recertification cycle. Not a member? Join today!

Q: Do I have to pay the application fee to enter and keep track of my PDCs in the Certification Portal? A: No. You only pay the application fee when you are ready to submit your complemented recertification application.

Q: I have my SHRM-CP and PHR, do the PDCs that I enter automatically update both? Did the SHRM-CP take the place of the PHR? A: The SHRM-CP and PHR are two separate credentials, backed by two different organizations. When you enter your professional development activities into your SHRM Certification Portal, those activities will only be applied towards the recertification of your SHRM credential. If you maintain another HR certification you will need to enter those activities through an alternate site.

Q: Have you visited the SHRM Connect - members community site? https://community.shrm.org/home. A: The site has message boards listed by category for professional engagement such as: Benefits, Employee Relations, HR Department of One, and Talent Acquisition. Join the Discussion. Ask questions and get answers from peers within the SHRM Community.

Ask a Question—Another new community added to the SHRM Connect site is the SHRM Certification Prep Group page. This page offers a forum for SHRM recently certified and future SHRM certification test takers to exchange ideas, ask questions, or just talk a bit about what their experience was like. This can be very helpful for those of you who are thinking about becoming certified.

By 2017 LASHRM Board Earning your professional HR certification is an arduous, yet worthwhile endeavor. Many of us purchased additional study materials in order to prepare for our certification tests.

Have you cracked any of those study guides open since? Are they sitting on your shelf gathering dust? How about giving those on the path to their certification a helping hand? WHY NOT donate your recent, gently used study materials to LASHRM to create a lending library for those members who are preparing to take the exam??

Any member that donates approved study materials with a copyright ©2015 or later will receive a $20 Gift Card. Please bring your eligible materials to monthly LASHRM meeting for Board approval
