Dear Flicks Fan,We have great pleasure in presenting our Autumn 2013 season brochure; as usual it’s packed with a wide range of fi lms, chosen by the communities we work with.
Flicks is a unique service – we are not a commercial organisation, and rely on public funding and donations to help us deliver our service.
We work with local promoters who, on behalf of their community, help organise the screenings, undertake publicity distribution and organise the venue on the night. They are nearly all volunteers.
Flicks is unlike other cinema providers. We organise fi lms locally where home-made refreshments are reasonably priced, as are the costs of tickets to see the fi lms.
The fi lms are often just a good excuse for the community to come together for a shared experience, food and wine, and a good natter.
Although we feel positive about the future, we are mindful that local authorities and our main funders are likely to be making even more cuts over the next two years – some organisations may lose all their funding. So anything you can do to help keep the service running would be much appreciated – including coming along to see the fi lms! If you would like more info about our work and how to help even more, then please visit www.artsalive.co.uk

Good VibrationsDirectors: Lisa Barros D'Sa and Glenn Leyburn
British Biography/Drama/Music 103 mins Cert 15
Jodie Whittaker, Dylan Moran, Richard Dormer
Eager to shift thoughts away from the troubles of the 1970s, music fanatic Terri Hooley (Richard Dormer, Game of Thrones) opens a record store, Good Vibrations, in the heart of one of Belfast's roughest districts. As the shop gains a loyal following, Terri decides to start a small record label with the aim of launching some of the local bands he's discovered, including The Undertones whose fi rst single, Teenage Kicks, is soon championed by legendary Radio 1 DJ John Peel. A heart-warming and hilarious true story, Good Vibrations is not a feel-good fi lm, it’s a feel-great fi lm!

Richard Burton, Elizabeth Taylor, Peter O'Toole, David Jason, Ruth Madoc, Glynis Johns, Vivien Merchant
Legendary cinema icons Richard Burton, Elizabeth Taylor and Peter O’Toole star in the screen adaptation of Dylan Thomas’ classic play. A celebration of religion, sex and death, Under Milk Wood follows the people and events in a small Welsh harbour village over the course of one night.
Shot largely on location in Fishguard, Wales, in the winter of 1971, Under Milk Wood features Richard Burton and Ryan Davies as two rollicking nocturnal visitors to the sleeping town of Llareggub. Peter O’Toole plays the blind sea captain, Tom Cat, with Elizabeth Taylor as the Welsh fl oosie, Rosie Probert.

In 1930s Hudson Valley, Margaret 'Daisy' Suckley is reacquainted with her distant cousin, President Franklin D. Roosevelt, to help him relax at his family estate. That aid soon develops into much more as they become lovers. That puts Daisy in a unique position as Roosevelt receives the King and Queen of Britain in 1939 for a visit. As the Royal couple copes with the President's oddly plebeian arrangements, Daisy learns that there is far more to Roosevelt's life than she realized.
With the world about to be set ablaze by war, friendships are struck and perspectives are gained on that special weekend that would make all the difference with a great, but very human, president.

The Newlyn School of artists fl ourished at the beginning of the 20th Century and the fi lm focuses on the wild and bohemian Lamorna Group, which included Alfred Munnings and Laura and Harold Knight. The incendiary anti-Modernist Munnings, now regarded as one of Britain's most sought-after artists, is at the centre of the complex love triangle, involving aspiring artist Florence Carter-Wood and Gilbert Evans, the land agent in charge of the Lamorna Valley estate.
True – and deeply moving – the story is played out against the timeless beauty of the Cornish coast, in the approaching shadow of The Great War.
