DESCRIPTION

GeneralThe SHS2 switching and isolating apparatus consist of gas-insulatedswitch-disconnectors and isolators, suitable for use in medium voltagemetal-enclosed switchboards.They are used in secondary distribution substations for supplying lines,power transformers and ring networks.

Technical characteristicsThe SHS2 switch-disconnectors and isolators are made up of a stainlesssteel cylindrical enclosure, a set of three top insulators and a set of threebottom insulators made of epoxy resin, and a front operating mechanism.The blade contacts for isolation, breaking, closing and earthing are arrangedinside the cylinder in SF6 gas atmosphere at a pressure of 125 kPa absolute.The unit is the sealed for life type complying with the IEC 60694 Standards.It is therefore free from any problems of gas tightness.A gas exhaust valve is located in the rear part of the cylinder for any over-pressure.The contacts can take up three positions: CLOSED - OPEN - EARTHED.The position of the contacts can be verified from the front of the operatingmechanism by means of a reliable indication, in compliance with IEC 60129Standards.The three top insulators act as a support for the fixed contacts and allowfixing of the main busbars.The three bottom insulators act as a support for the moving contacts andallow connection of the medium voltage cables or of the busbars.

CLOSED OPEN EARTHED

Furthermore, the metal segregationprovided by the enclosure consider-ably reduces the possibility of a short-circuit between the phases andbetween the upper and lower con-tacts of the same phase due toleakage currents.

The stainless steel enclosure pro-vides a metal earthed segregationbetween the busbar compartmentand the feeder compartment of theunit the apparatus is installed in.This characteristic ensures maximumpersonnel safety during any interven-tion in the feeder compartment, suchas replacement of one or more fusesor cable maintenance, even with themain busbars energised.

This enables rapid either manual or motor-operatedclosing and opening of the switch-disconnector withoperating speed independent of the operator,obtained by using a single spring.Closing or opening takes place by charging theabove-mentioned spring until it exceeds deadcentre.It also carries out rapid manual closing of theearthing switch with operating speed independentof the operator. On the other hand, earthing switchopening speed depends on the operator.It is used in SHS2/T1, SHS2/T1M, Mix-L, Mix-Lmand Mix-U type switch-disconnectors.

T2 Stored energy operating mechanismwith independent operation

This enables rapid manual closing of the switch-disconnector with operation independent of theoperator, obtained by means of a spring chargeduntil it exceeds dead centre.During the closing operation, a separate spring isautomatically charged, storing the energy foropening.Switch-disconnector opening can be carried outby means of:– an operating lever– a shunt opening release (applied onto the

operating mechanism itself)– a release system activated by the fuse striker

(in the case of even a single fuse blowing).It also carries out rapid manual closing of theearthing switch with operating speed independentof the operator. On the other hand, earthing switchopening speed is dependent on the operator.It is used in SHS2/T2, SHS2/T2F and Mix-T typeswitch-disconnectors.

T3-T4 Operating mechanisms with dependentoperation

These allow manual closing of the isolator andearthing switch with operating speed dependingon the operator. Closing and opening is obtainedby means of the operating lever.The lever can only be removed after completionof the operation.The T3 type of operating mechanism is used inSHS2/I, SHS2/IF and SHS2/IB type isolators.The T4 type of operating mechanism is used inSHS2/ES type earthing switches.

ACCESSORIES

1 Key locksThese allow the apparatus to be locked in theclosed or open position.It is possible to combine a maximum of two keylocks for the T1, T2 and T4 operating mechanisms,and a maximum of three key locks for T3 operatingmechanisms.

2 Auxiliary contactsThese signal the position of the apparatus state.A maximum of two + two auxiliary contactscan be combined for each position (closed/open/earthed).

3 Shunt opening releaseThis is an electromechanical device which, follow-ing energisation of an electromagnet, activates therelease lever of the operating mechanism makingthe switch-disconnector open. This application isonly compatible with stored energy operatingmechanisms (T2 type).Power supply voltages: 24, 48 V d.c.; 110, 220 Vd.c. and V a.c.

4 Voltage indicator lampsThese can be supplied with one or two sets ofthree lamps integrated in the operating mechanismcasing.The device is preset with sockets for checkingphase concordance.It can be combined with the crosspiece with capaci-tive insulators.

6 Door lockThis is a mechanical device which does not allowthe unit door to be opened with the earthing switchopen.

5 Crosspiece with insulatorsThis can be supplied to complete the switchboardin the versions with supporting insulators or, alter-natively, with supporting capacitive insulators, incombination with the voltage indicator lamps.

SHS2/T2: three-positions switch-disconnectorwith manual stored energy operating mechanism.It is normally used for incoming/outgoing unitsand can be fitted with a shunt opening release.(Fig. 1).

SHS2/T2F: three positions switch-disconnectorwith manual stored energy operating mechanism,fuse-holder frame, release device for fuse blown,earthing switch on the load side of the fuse-holder frame.It is normally used for transformer protectionunits and can be fitted with a shunt openingrelease (Fig. 2).

SHS2/T1M: three-positions switch-disconnectorwith motor operated mechanism.It is normally used for incoming/outgoing units(Fig. 1).

IsolatorsSHS2/I: three-positions isolator with manualoperating mechanism with dependent operation.It is normally used for incoming/outgoing units(Fig. 3).

REF 542 Plus micro-processor-based unitThe REF542 Plus unit car-ries out integration of all thesecondary functions relativeto a switchboard unit.

PR512 Switchboard protection devicesThe PR512 are devices of the self-supplied type and ensure complete protection of theinstallation without an auxiliary power supply.

VD4/R vacuum circuit-breakerABB proposes the VD4/R seriesvacuum circuit-breaker, with 230 mmpole centre distance, interchangeablewith the HD4/R gas circuit-breaker.

Combined voltage-current sensorsA range of sensors is available whichoptimally covers the characteristics ofnew generations of instruments and of theREF 542 Plus unit in particular.The current sensors conform with the IEC60044-8 (CDV) Standard, the voltage sen-sors with the IEC 60044-7 Standard.Their dimensions are according to DIN42600 Standards.

Three fuses for transformer protection can be con-nected in series with the SHS2 switch-disconnector, with dimensional characteristics com-plying with DIN 43625 Standards.The fuse striker must have force and run as shownin the diagram.Selection of the fuse according to the voltage andpower of the transformer must be made followingthe data indicated in the table.
