THE PROJECT

Purpose of the project To build a sustainable business to give a vocational training and a job to young people with disabilities from the NGO Shuktara in Kolkata.

Type of business A high quality cakes factory, with the best recipes from the Head Executive pastry chef of Fauchon and the food expertise of cojean.

These cakes will be sell by large retailers in Kolkata, like high standing hotels, restaurants, ...

Creation of a brand Creation of “shuktara cakes” brand which means “high quality and delicious recipes” but which can also be promoted as a social commitment for young people with disabilities and for Shuktara a local NGO from Calcutta.

Cojean Cojean is a renowned French restaurants company founded by Alain Cojean in 2001. See details in attachment the presentation of the company www.cojean.fr

Cojean foundation Cojean created “nourrir aimer donner” its own foundation under the Foundation de France umbrella, the most recognized public-interest charity organization in France. The purpose of the foundation is to fight against poverty and to contribute to sustainable development for most deprived communities, including working to improve access to water and access to food, and to tackle all kinds of injustice.

Shuktara Charity Shuktara is a charity based in Calcutta, India, which provides care for children and young people with disabilities who have no family. Shuktara was started in 1999 by UK-born David Earp after he visited India and was profoundly moved by the plight of the disabled street children he met there. The difference that a few years or even a few months at Shuktara makes is astounding. The boys and girls grow in every sense - physically, in confidence, in skills, in communication. 20 young adults are now living in Shuktara houses, main of them are deaf and dump, some have other disabilities. www.shuktara.net

Birth of the project We went to Kolkata to visit Shuktara for several occasions and we saw the wonderful work doing by David Earp during all these years. But, now they are becoming young adults, David Earp and our foundation are worried about their future. We wonder how to provide them a vocational training or a job, to access to professional and social life. So, we decided to build a project to help them with our expertise in food business and project management.

David Earp UK born, David Earp arrived in Kolkata in 1999, to start an business in textile. He founded Shuktara charity to provide care to street children with disabilities . Project supervisor in India.

Pappu Mishra Shuktara houses manager. He started to work with David earp 10 years ago. He manages the 2 houses, speaks sign language. He will be the supervisor of “shukatara cakes” dealing with commercial issues and staff administration.

Sommath Ex Sommath has been working two years with Pappu to assist him in Shuktara houses management. He speaks sign language, know very well all shuktara young people. Graduated in computer, he is working today in logistics for a transport company in Kolkata. He will be “shuktara cakes manager” managing the team, caring of supplier issues and customs services.
