HOWTHEWATER DISPENSERWORKS

The water tank, Iocated behind the drawers in the refrigeratorcompartment, automatically fills as water is dispensed. Forproper dispenser operation, the recommended supply waterpressure should fall between 30 psi and 100 psi.

After the refrigerator is connected to the water supply, fill thewater tank by drawing one glass of water. It may take about11/2minutes after activating the dispenser paddle before waterbegins to filI this first glass. Continue flushing the system for 3minutes to rid the tank and plumbing connections of anyimpurities. The water dispenser has a built in shutoff devicethat will stop the water flow after 3 minutes of continuous use.Simply release the dispenser paddle to reset the shutoffmechanism.

HOWTHE ICE DISPENSER WORKS

The ice maker and container are located in the top of thefreezer compartment. After the refrigerator is installed properlyand has cooled for several hours, the ice maker can beginmaking ice within 24 hours. Air in new plumbing lines maycause the ice maker to cycle two or three times before makinga full tray of ice. To begin ice production, lower the wire signalarm to the "down" or ON position. With no usage it will takeapproximately 2 days to fill the ice container. The ice makerturns off automatically when the ice container becomes full. Tostop the ice maker, lift the wire signal arm until it clicks, andlocks in the "up" or OFF position.

Because of new plumbing I o,connections, the firstproduction of ice cubes maybe discolored or have anodd flavor. These should bediscarded until the cubesmade are free ofdiscoloration and taste.

10

HCE ANDWATER DHSPENSER FEATURES

The ice and water dispenser conveniently dispenses chilledwater, and ice cubes or crushed ice, depending on the model.

To operate the ice dispenser, select the ice option desiredusing the touchpad. Press a glass against the dispensingpaddle as far up as possible to catch all ice. To stopdispensing ice, pulI glass away from dispensing paddle. Donot remove the glass until the ice has completely dispensed.(Complete instructions for the dispenser operation areattached to the inside of the freezer door.)

ICE DISPENSER TIPS

,, Ice cubes stored too Iong may develop an odd flavor.Empty the ice container and ensure that the wire signalarm is in its "down" or ON position. The ice maker will thenproduce more ice.

,, Occasionaily shake the ice container to keep iceseparated.

Keep the wire signal arm in its "up" or OFF position untilthe refrigerator is connected to the water supply orwhenever the water supply is turned off.

CLEANING THE ICE DISPENSER

Clean the dispenser and ice container at regular intervals, particularly before you take a vacation or move, or if the icedispenser sticks.

1. Stop ice production by lifting the wire signal arm to the"up" or OFF position.

2. Remove ice container by lifting up and out. Empty andcarefully clean the container with mild detergent. Rinsewith clear water. Do not use harsh or abrasive cleaners.

Allow ice container to dry completely before replacing inthe freezer.

3. Remove ice chips and clean the shelf and chute thatsupports the ice container.

4. Replace the ice container. Lower the wire signal arm onthe ice maker to the "down" or ON position and the icemaker will resume production.

,, If a large quantity of ice is needed at one time, it is best toremove cubes directly from the ice container.

,, The following sounds are normal when the ice maker isoperating:

,, Motor running

,, Ice dropping into ice container

,, Water valve opening or closing

,, Ice loosening from tray

,, Running water

,, Stop the ice maker when cleaning the freezer and duringvacations.

,, If the ice maker will be turned off for a long period of time, turn the water supply valve to the closed position.

Remove and empty the ice storage bin if:1. An extended power faiIure (one hour or Ionger) causes ice

cubes in the ice storage bin to melt and freeze togetherand jam the dispenser mechanism.

2. The ice dispenser is not used frequently. Ice cubes willfreeze together in the bin and ]am the dispensermechanism. Remove the ice storage bin and shake toloosen the cubes.

_, To minimize dehydration and quality deterioration, usealuminum foil, freezer wrap, freezer bags or airtightcontainers. Force as much air out of the packages aspossible and seal them tightly. Trapped air can cause foodto dry out, change color, and develop an off-flavor (freezerburn).

,, Wrap fresh meats and poultry with suitable freezer wrapprior to freezing.

,, Do not refreeze meat that has completely thawed.

Loading the Freezer

,, Avoid adding too much warm food to the freezer at onetime. This overloads the freezer, slows the rate of freezing, and can raise the temperature of frozen foods.

,, Leave a space between the packages, so cold air cancirculate freely, allowing food to freeze as quickly aspossible.

_, Avoid storing hard-to-freeze foods such as ice cream andorange iuice on the freezer door shelves. These foods arebest stored in the freezer interior where the temperaturevaries less.

ENERGY SAVING IDEAS

'_$ -MOS"-", " Locate the refrigerator in the cooIesti&_ _°_"_ part of the room, out of direct sunlight,

,_'-° _'__ _! and away from heating ducts or

_; ,'_ registers. Do not place the refrigeratornext to heat-producing appliances suchas a range, oven, or dishwasher. If this

is not possible, a section of cabinetry or an added layer ofinsulation between the two appliances will help the refrigeratoroperate more efficiently.

,, Level the refrigerator so that the doors close tightly.

_, Refer to this Use & Care Manual for the suggestedtemperature control settings.

_, Periodic cleaning of the condenser will help therefrigerator run more efficiently. See the Care andC/eaning Chart on page 16.

,, Do not overcrowd the refrigerator or block cold air vents.Doing so causes the refrigerator to run longer and use

more energy._, Cover foods and wipe containers dry before placing them

in the refrigerator. This cuts down on moisture build-upinside the unit.

_, Organize the refrigerator to reduce door openings.Remove as many items as needed at one time and closethe door as soon as possible.
