    Some

our chu rch es have been a sk ing what it is v;e a re do ing here

    in_Salatiga^

    Indonesia,

    Before we l e f t

    America, we planned on a

    year

    ofTanguage

    s tb:d5r being

    of

    foremost importance

    in

    effective

    mission

ary serv ice . Leaving a country l ike

    the United

    Sta tes of

    America

    and

    coming

    to a country

    such

    as

    t h i s much prepa ra t ion

    s tudy

    and

    a

    l o t o f

    cu l t u ra l

    adjus tment i s

    demanded

    fo r

    any

    who

    des i re

    to

    be e f

    f ec t i ve in

    remaining

    on the miss ion

    f i e l d .

    There

    were

    s ix

    fami l i es

    and a s ing le

    g i r l

    l o ca t ed

    in

    Bandung. We f e l t

    t h a t some would be o f

    more

    s e rv i c e and n eeded i n o th e r a r e a s

    while

some necessar i ly must s tay depending

    upon the

na ture of our work and

always in order to accomplish more for our Lord Jesus, After much re

    search

    and survey work

    as

    to where the best

    poss ib i l i t ie s lay

    the

    ..Lew Cass family

    and

    ours

decided to come to th is area . We wil l be

    working and serving together

    for

    a short time before^ thei r furlougl^^

    As a

    resul t

    of

    studying Missions

    a t home and lengthy

    discussions with

missionaries here on the f ie ld we wish to prof i t from past

    mistakes

    in teaching methods as

    well

    as

    e st ab l is h ing e ff ec ti v e

    methods here .

    Rather than

    spend

    severa l thousand do l l a rs

    on a

    correspondance course

    (others

    have assured

    us i t

    would be a minimum

    of 5,000.00

    per year)

    we

    have decided to

    dg^

    follow up

    work

    on

    contacts already made

    through

    correspondance cour^eT^om' FttilP'groups,

    These

    courses are of general

    nature

in int roducing God and Ghrist His Son, but

    it i s

    a beginning

    for

    the

    individual .

    I f

    we

    had

    put out a

    s imilar course,

    we would

    have

    no one

    to

    supplement with follow-up work, ^rom.

    just.

    one

    course

    (and

    there are many), we_have_alist

    of 3>000

names in th is area who

    have

finiehed the course, thQUgn want to know more as well as do more.

    V/e

    are

    making

contacts in th e s ur rounding

    vi l lages

    in order- to get per

mission to s t a r t Bible Study groups. V/e def ini te ly

    fee l

    the way to

    teach effect ively

    i s

    to keep

    the people

    in the i r own

    environment.

    ^- This

    .^ajiting, the sowing of. th^.seed-,'is^.slsw_work ts^ing_ much _^me^

    to see the resul t s . Formefly''of a cdhgregation ourselves, \ve kho'w'that

    our sponsoring churches

    get impat ient

    sometimes

    supporting

    mission

    ar ies

    without

    frequent

    reports and news from the

    f ield.

    We are doing

    oirr

    best

to keep you informed of our progress.

    We

    can. rent or build

    here

    and have

    a *Church o f Chris t i n a mat t e r o f

    weeks

    bu t

    the

the building would not be of these

    people it

    would be as a

    t rans

    posed building from

    America.

    V/e have

    learned

    by past

    mistakes,

    l^nowing

    strong, true Christians are

    not made by

    giving

    out

    money

    to the

    Nationals or

by f inancing new construct ions for them. They are made

    by teaching plain, strong, true

    teachings.

    Then they will build

    and

ea rn for themselves these mate r i a l

    t h ings .

    We

a ren t here to make

a name among the Brotherhood nor

    are

    we going to

    always

    place great

    importance on the

    numbers

    of

    baptized

bel ievers thht come from our

    teaching.

    V/hile

    the

    baptisms

are important, the numbers alone are

    not.

    In America,

    vie

    have mostly denominationalisrn to

    f igh t

    but here in

Indonesia we have Spir i tua l ism Mysticism, Hinduism and Islam

    plus

    denominationalisrn he nc e e n t e r s the Church of Chr i s t

    They

    see

    us Jus t

as ano ther complicat ion in

    the i r

    for the peace that comes

    only

from being a part of Christ s church.

Our projected program of teaching the TRUE V AY may not produce immed

    iate

    results , but then again

    i t

    might

    with

    praise be to God.

    I did

    intend

    to

    eventually

    enter

    the

    printing

    ministry

    but

    at

    the pre

sent there is Just too much

    teaching

to do first , mat printing is

    required

can be purchased commercially a t a lower cost

    than

    i f done

    by ourselves. Therefore,

    we know God

    has directed us to this

    new

    endeavor.

    Hearing

    the Word

    must be

    first,

    rea^ng_the

    Word

    second.

    V e came

    to Indonesia to teach

    Christ

    and His salvat ion. That

    i s what

    we

    are doing a

    never-ending task

    V e

    honestly feel

    that God

    i s

    world.ng

    in

this country and we are very thrilled to be part of His work.

    Asia

e reinforced their original plan to make Singapore

se of operation from which to spread the Gospel

Jesus Christ and to help strengthen Christians in

    surrounding countries.

The Sigafoose's plan to continue their efforts in

    Asia

    and need

    your financial assistance in

r to do this work. The cost

    of

    living in Singapore

quite high and the dollar doesn't go nearly as far

used to.The rate of money exchange has left

with a 25 loss in buying power. The 5 rate

inflation that exists in Singapore also cuts into

r buying power. They need an immediate 40

ease in their living link funds just to make ends

et. If they are to continue with any mission

nsion plans, they will need additional funds.

ase pray about these financial problems. Their

    l^n

    so fruitfuland theevidencethat

rts the continued fruitfulness of their work is

whelming. They need your financial support in

    continue.

    Currentgovernment restrictions in most of

ast Asia's countries limit missionary endeavors

one month and then they begin to

    put

    up blocks

d close doors. They will allow return visits

    of

    one

nth in duration without major restrictions,

ecially in Indonesia where Bob andDiane began

    missionary

    work

    as interns. Therefore, it has

    imperative that Bo b

    and

    Diane adopt the

ionary methods of the Apostle Paul when he

Barnabas on on e trip and then Silas on another

the very purpose of strengthening the churches.

Acts, chapters 15-18). This was one of the main

sons for establishing a headquarters in Singapore in

    81. It's usefulness is quite apparent at this present

    Bob

    and Diane

    will work with the Singaporean

churches and will continuewith their counselling

    efforts in c o n ne c ti o n w i th t h e C e n t e r f o r Life

work with the churches in Sri

    Lanka

    (which is totally

supported by theSingaporean churches) andwith the

    Maylasian contactsthathavebeenmade.

Bob has been invited tospeak at the Churchesof

Christ convention in Brisbane, Australia, October21

    opportunityto speak to severalof theAustralian

Most of the time you heat about the work thatBob does on the mission field. You

should know, however, that Diane is a very integral part of the mission and is working

alongside her husband in much of what he does. She is not only his wife and homemaker,

    but

    also is

    his assistant

    in

    the

    Centerfor

    Enrichment

    Seminars.

    Diane is

    an excellent

teacher, devoted to bringing a full awareness of her Lord to those she comes in contact

with. She is responsiblefor their growing youth ministry, and also finds the time to teach

English and Christ) to the Japanese students. She spends many hours providing Bob with

secretarial assistance for his work and helps the churches with some of their secretarial

needs as well. Diane is not without the special grace of hospitality and sets aside the

necessary time to minister to the many visitorstheyreceiveeach year. She is a very fruitful

and special part of the ministry. Pray that God s blessingwill continue to be with her as
