NFAT, a transcriptional regulator of interleukin-2 (IL-2) gene expression, is a direct target of calcineurin.

Calcineurin dephosphorylates the cytosolic component of NFAT, NFATc, which migrates to the nucleus and induces transcription of the IL-2 gene.
