Overview of PCS 7 OS Web option 33.1 Using the PCS 7 OS Web Option

Introduction PCS 7 OS Web Option enables operator control and monitoring of automated processes over the Intranet/Internet using PCS 7. You can use PCS 7 OS Web Option on a PCS 7 system: ● With a PCS 7 OS multiple station system ● With a PCS 7 OS single station system PCS 7 OS Web Option consists of two components: ● PCS 7 OS Web Server ● PCS 7 Web Client

Using the product on a PCS 7 OS multiple station system On a PCS 7 OS multiple station system, PCS 7 OS Web Server acts as an OS Client with PCS 7 OS Web Server functionality. Once an OS Client has been configured as a PCS 7 OS Web Server, it can no longer be used as an operating station (OS Client) within the PCS 7 system. A PCS 7 Web Client uses Internet Explorer to access the project data on the PCS 7 OS Web Server over the Intranet/Internet. Operator control and monitoring of the process is supported.

Using the product on a PCS 7 OS single station system When used on a PCS 7 OS single station system, the PCS 7 OS Web Server provides PCS 7 OS Web Server functionality. Once the PCS 7 OS single station system has been configured as a PCS 7 OS Web Server, it can continue to function as a PCS 7 OS on the PCS 7 system. The PCS 7 OS single station system can be operated on two different bases: ● PCS 7 OS single station system (OS single station) ● PCS 7 OS single station system (engineering station and OS on one PC station) If the PCS 7 OS single station system takes the form of the PCS 7 OS single station system (engineering station and OS on one PC station), then process control and engineering cannot be performed simultaneously. A PCS 7 Web Client uses Internet Explorer to access the project data on the PCS 7 OS Web Server over the Intranet/Internet. Operator control and monitoring of the process is supported. Depending on the requirements of your PCS 7 system, you have a choice of two configurations: ● PCS 7 OS Web Standard Server and PCS 7 Web Client ● PCS 7 OS Web Diagnostics Server and PCS 7 Web Diagnostics Client

Note for the reader Throughout the remainder of the documentation, the term OS single station system shall be used to refer to both implementations: "OS single station" and "engineering station and OS on one PC station". The reader's attention will be drawn to any differences between the two, where applicable.

3.2 OS Web Server and Web Client

OS Web server All the screens and required scripts are stored on the OS Web server so that they can be displayed or run on the Web client. All screens and scripts must be prepared accordingly (published). The Web View Publisher is used for this purpose.

Note The following applies in a multiple station system: The data from various OS servers can be prepared (published) on the OS Web server. The OS multiple station system may not be used as an operator station (OS client) since it cannot guarantee the required reaction and response times.

Web client The operator can log on at the Web client and access the data on the OS Web server by means of a TCP/IP connection. The user interface displayed in Internet Explorer corresponds with the appearance of the user interface on the operator station (OS) with an overview area, work area, and key area. All operations that the operator performs on the OS Web client are automatically logged with the name of the operator.

3.4 Information about the PCS 7 Web Option

Web Client setup If you decide to install the Web Client by downloading it from the Intranet/Internet you can choose whether to "Open" or "Save" the setup file. You should make a note of which option you select when installing the Web Client for the first time, because you will need to use the same method when installing subsequent plug-ins. If the methods do not match, you will get an error message. However, you will not get an error message if you combine the "From DVD" and "Download and save" installation methods.

Your OS Web Server's performance The speed and bandwidth of your OS Web Server Internet connection will have a significant impact on performance in terms of your PCS 7 projects, your Web Client's update times as well as when opening pictures. Each Web Client requires a bandwidth of approx. 10 kbps. Maximum performance can be achieved on a LAN (rather than with a 64K modem) and this will prove beneficial in terms of picture loading times, the update process and the number of Web Clients that can be operated simultaneously.

Constraints associated with PCS 7 OS Web Option The following constraints apply in respect of PCS 7 OS Web Option: ● The Web Client does not support operation via hotkeys configured in WinCC, because

Internet Explorer is not capable of distinguishing between its own internal operating objects (e.g., the "Refresh" button) and those of WinCC.

● Synchronous script functions place a great deal of strain on the system. For this reason, you should not use the "SetTagxxx" function in cyclic scripts. If a large number of Web Clients (>10) call SetTagxxx functions in a rapid cycle (1s or less), the OS Web Server will become overloaded.

● Automatic user logout: In the User Administrator, you can configure an automatic logout process for each user that will take effect after a set time. This function is not supported by the Web Client.

For additional information, refer to the Online Help for the WinCC Information System.

7.2.4 Overview of the Publishing Procedure

Basic Procedure On the ES, 1+n publishing processes are necessary, whereby "n" is the number of servers (server pairs in case of redundancy) that the OS Web server accesses or whose pictures are to be published. The first publishing process edits local @-pictures and functions on the OS Web server. The further publishing processes edit the pictures of the OS servers.

Note In the case of an OS single station system only one publishing process is required to publish the local data on the OS Web server.

The following standard procedure applies to publishing: 1. Open the OS Web server project on the ES; set the source paths and destination path

during configuration on the ES. 2. Publish all the pictures of the WinCC source projects on the ES (1+n actions) and then

load them onto the PC station of the OS Web server.

8.3.1 Using the Web Configurator

Role of the Web Configurator The Web Configurator can be used to set up and manage the Internet Information Service (IIS) and, therefore, in turn the OS Web Server website. This has to be set up on the OS Web Server after you have downloaded the project onto the OS Web Server. This setup and configuration process is necessary for the purpose of configuring an operating station (OS) as an OS Web Server and making it accessible to the Web Clients over the Intranet/Internet. You can use the Web Configurator to make the necessary firewall settings for the network card (assuming that you have activated the firewall).

Setting the standard website You can use the Web Configurator to select which standard website should open when the Web Client starts up: ● If you select "WebClient.asp", a process picture will appear in the Internet Explorer

window when the Web Client starts up. ● If you select "MainControl.asp", a navigation interface for subsequently downloading plug-

ins will also be displayed on the Web Client. The default setting is "MainControl.asp".

When the Web Configurator should be used The Web Configurator is used: ● Whenever a new OS Web Server is installed (as a general rule) ● Whenever there is a change of project ● Whenever new SIMATIC PCS 7 components are installed or existing ones are updated

9.9.1 Web Client user interface

User interface On a Web Client, it is always the standard layout that has been configured on the OS Web Server that will be used and displayed. Operator control and monitoring of the process pictures displayed on the Web Client is exactly the same as with an operating station (OS), provided that the operator who is logged on has been assigned the relevant rights. The Web Client user interface is structured in exactly the same way as on an operating station (OS). It is made up of an overview area, a workspace and a key set area. The main difference is that the user interface is displayed in Internet Explorer. Also, some of the functions associated with key sets 1 and 2 that would normally be accessible on an operating station (OS) are not available.

NOTICE If the WinCC Picture Tree has been taken from the SIMATIC Manager plant hierarchy or if the names of the OS areas in the plant hierarchy are consistent, process picture control will be possible.
