    Case Studies

    SIME DARBY BERHAD: Leading Strategic Transformation

    The Sime Darby Group is Malaysia's leading multinational and one ofSoutheast Asia's largest conglomerates.

    Challenge

    The design and delivery of a Leading Strategic Transformation programme to further developManagerial and Leadership Competencies among senior managers who had previouslyparticipated on the Sime Darby Senior Management Development programme (SMDP).

    Solution

    The Leading Strategic Transformation programme was designed to build upon the knowledgeand competencies gained in the SMDP and focus on Strategic Choice and Implementation.

    Sime Darby indicated general business outcomes we sought to achieve through this programme,notably to turn business projects into reality with business impact. Two further notable issueswere challenged as part of the programme:

    1. Silo culture across the five businesses - to encourage sharing and leverage the brand

    across all businesses.

    2. Lack of sharing stories (case studies) of success and failure for useful knowledgemanagement.

    Outcome

    Participants worked in Action Learning business project teams and identified suitable, feasibleand acceptable Strategic Options for analysis, diagnosis and assessment - creating robust realstrategic options for consideration by the Sime Darby Management Team at presentationsfollowing the completion of the programme. Supported through CELSIMs I-Coach e-learningand our unique mentoring support.

    Participants on this programme benefited substantially, learning to:

    Establish how to create new revenue by leveraging the whole organisations capabilities morefully.

    Enhance value propositions through reviewing assumptions on customer segments, targetingand positioning.

    Gain strategic insights on changes that will affect a companys future success versus

    competitors and its positioning with customers.

    Identify competitive advantages, industry success factors and profit models that underpindifferent market positions innovation and financial appraisal.

    Add significant value through personal and team development.
