Here I have chosen the product of a performance type dance music video by ‘Madeon’ to analyse how a music video supports/conforms Andrew Goodwin’s theories.

Relation of visuals to the song

The first feature I noticed in my similar product research was that the music playing matched the visuals of the music video. In the screenshot provided it shows just one image that makes up the dance/rave scene at the start of the song, this supports Goodwin’s theory number 2 that there is a relationship between sound and visuals because playing in the background is a very uplifting music drop which matches perfectly with the genre of the music. This is something I want to incorporate into my music video so the audience is able to connect to the video better.

The star image

Here the star ‘Madeon’ is DJ’ing in front of a large crowd which I believe to be his fans at a concert however it could just be that he is the DJ for a particular club. Either way he is portrayed to be a huge crowd controller who is able to create adrenaline within people via his music. I would say this presents him as powerful because in the video the camera always swoops back to him to where he is making arm action telling the crowd to jump etc. It also makes him look very talented because he is able to create good enough music that evidently people have paid to go and watch.

Technical aspects

Cinematography – in the video they have used a camera on an electronic system that is able to change altitude and angle in order to catch footage in all areas of the club, it make me imagine it would be something similar to what is used in football stadiums, although this song features mainly short and sharp cuts to create a manic effect through the use of this technology they have been able to capture long range shots and close up shots of the same thing which is very effective when creating a chaotic scene that would occur in a ‘rave’.

Overall the music video is very basic and I think was thrown together last minute just to call it finished. One reason for this is that the video was released after the song was so evidently

means that the production company had no ideas or intent to make a music video. The main reason for this is because that the music video is the same all throughout, and I think it could have been filmed and edited all in one day. It features only footage of people dancing and is all black and white which stays consistent throughout the song. This appears quite boring to me because the video isn’t as exciting as the song.
