Portland became the first team to clinch a playoff berth in 2021. Thorns FC have

qualified for the playoffs in each of the last five NWSL regular seasons. It marks the seventh time Portland has qualified for the playoffs in eight NWSL regular seasons – the most of any team in the league.

With three games left in the season, the race for the NWSL Shield is down

to the wire. Sitting atop the table with 39 points, Thorns FC are one point ahead of second-place OL Reign (38pts). Portland has a seven-point lead over third place Houston Dash and fourth place North Carolina Cour-age (32pts). Thorns FC previously claimed the Shield in the 2016 season.

I n their last match, Portland earned its 11th clean sheet of the 2021 campaign, which is

tied for the most in the NWSL this season. The team’s 11 shutouts are also tied for the most in a single season in club history. Thorns FC have recorded six road shutouts – the second-most in the league in 2021. Goalkeeper Bella Bixby has recorded the second-most shutouts (7) in the NWSL this season.
