Bridget M. Chandler, Principal/Accountant

Bridget has managed and performed accounting and financial

management services for private, small to mid-sized

companies for over 25 years. She has worked with some of

the largest accounting firms in the capital district. In

addition, she has significant experience in accounting

software in many industries including wholesale, retail,

manufacturing, construction, service, and non-profit

organizations. She is a certified QuickBooks Advanced

ProAdvisor and a Certified Sage Accountant.

Ms. Chandler is an IRS Authorized Tax Practitioner and Efile

Provider, Registered NYS Tax Practitioner, and NYS Licensed

Notary Public in Rensselaer County. She is a member of the

Southern Rensselaer Boy's and Girl's Club Board of Director's

and chair of the Finance Committee, member of the

Northeastern Girl’s Scouts Board of Director’s, is named

Whos' Who in 2005 Top Executives and has attended

professional seminars and software training in order to be up

to date with the latest procedures and technologies.

Katrina Lampkin, Jr. AccountantKatrina Lampkin started as an intern with Simply Accounting in July 2008 and became an employee as of November 2008 as a Junior Accountant. She earned her Associate Degree in Business Administration from Fulton Montgomery Community College in May 2006. She completed her Bachelor of Business Administration (Technology Management: Financial Services) in December 2008 from the State University of New York at Cobleskill.Katrina has held many leadership positions over the years. She was the Student Government Treasurer at SUNY Cobleskill for the spring 2008 semester. She served the same position at FMCC for the 2005-2006 school year. She has been the Treasurer of Florida Reformed Church since May 2009. She serves as a board member of the Fulton Montgomery 4-H Youth Development Committee and the Alumni Committee of FMCC. She volunteers numerous hours with other groups and functions throughout the year.

Jingru Xu , a graduate student from the University at Albany, is an intern with Simply Accounting since May, 2010. She is in her second year of her Master of Accounting program and will graduate at the end of 2010. She works closely with her supervisor at Simply Accounting on bookkeeping, tax preparation and other accounting services.Originally from China, Jingru has worked in real estate for three years after she earned a Master of Law degree at Fudan University, Shanghai, China. What is important is how you make your selection. When you

hire an employee, you interview. When you look for a bank you

look for the best rates. How did you or would you select your tax

preparer, accountant, or bookkeeper? We help you with the

Tips for choosing an accountant

1)Choose an accountant that has experience with your business industry or financial needs. If your business generates a large number of transactions (for example, an online shopping service), make sure the accountant has experience with dealing with companies in your sector if possible.

2) Make sure your accountant is fully qualified. Most likely, these qualifications will be displayed on any promotional material or the company's website, otherwise make sure you ask.

3) It is essential that your accountant works with small business clients.

4)What other services does the accountant provide - can they complete your self assessment returns? Do they provide business advice or further information to help grow your business?

5) As a small business, we find that the best accountants are also likely to be smaller in size. They will understand what it's like running a small operation and will have the resources and time you require to run your finances properly.

6) Ask to speak to existing clients before signing up. A decent accountancy firm should be happy to arrange this.

7) Make sure your accountant keeps in touch with your business -not just at year end! If you feel your current accountant no longer meets your requirements for whatever reason, get a new one!

•The burden of tax and financial reporting is the responsibility of the independent businessowner. Each month and/or quarter, most likely you are required to report to governmentagencies.

•With very few exceptions, the tax and financial reporting requirements of a small business are similar to that of a large one.

•Larger businesses have an accounting department to help them deal with tax and reporting requirements. Typically smaller businesses do not.

HOW DO I GET STARTED

WORKING WITH A PROADVISOR?

Try providing them with any of the following information:

Inform the ProAdvisor of what version of the program you’re using, how long you’ve been using it, and how many computers use the program on a daily basis.

Share with the ProAdvisor what specific questions you have about QuickBooks. ProAdvisor’s are technical minded generally and are looking for problems to solve and this will help them to understand the nature of your issues.

Plan to communicate how involved you want the ProAdvisor. Services range from an accounting technician to resolve a few hang‐ups or provide targeted training, to someone who will manage your accounting, make recommendations, and prepare your tax returns.

HOW TO WORK WITH A

QUICKBOOKS PROADVISER

Tell the ProAdvisor how involved you or your staff plan to be in the consulting. If there are several errors that involve many transactions, will the ProAdvisor be the one to correct each one, or you, or your staff?

Inform the ProAdvisor of how you use your accounting. Is it simply necessary for tax return preparation? Do you want to measure gross margin every month and determine employee productivity?

Tell the ProAdvisor how you currently rate your confidence in using and understanding the program and where you want to be. You may consider yourself a 6 on a scale of 10 and you don’t have an interest in getting better because you would rather manage your business than your accounting. You may consider yourself a 3 on a scale of 10 and you want to be an 8 so that you can be in control and manage your business through your accounting.

Help the ProAdvisor assess what your budget is for their assistance. Not in dollars specifically, but indicate whether you can’t be bothered and you just want it taken care of or that you have a specific budget in mind.

How do you bill for your services and what payment terms are available to your clients? Do you accept credit cards? 5. What do you require of clients to engage your services? 6. How would you assess your rate for services performed in relation to others providing similar services?
