With such a vast array of products and design possibilities to choose from, we have put together a guide to

designing your floor. Your floor can be as simple or as intricate as you like, and by following the steps below, we

believe you will be able to create a truly individual floor to match your décor.

TilesChoose from the range of colour tones to complement

your room’s decorative palette; from natural beiges and

browns to warm blues and greens. Or a specific type of

tile effect such as marble, slate, terracotta, ceramic or

mosaic. The most common tile size is 12" x 12", but many

are also available at 16" x 16" and 12" x 18".

WoodplanksChoose a colour tone to complement

your room or a specific type of wood

effect such as beech, oak, walnut or

pine. Woodplanks are available in a

selection of sizes, according to range.

Adding a decorative strip

Once you have chosen your main floor colour, you have the option of

adding a decorative strip...

Strip effects for tilesWe would highly recommend

adding a narrow strip to a tile floor to

create a natural grouting effect.

And woodplanksAdd a strip to a woodplank floor

to create an attractive ships

decking effect.

If you would like to add a decorative edging to your room, you have the

To complete the desired effect for your floor, add a Decorative Strip. Strips are placed between tiles to create a natural

grouting effect or to enhance the design of your floor. Choose from any of these three types of strip...

Available in five stunning colours, Karndean Metallic Strips give a

contemporary feel to any Karndean floor. Offered in a choice of five

widths (3, 5, 10, 30 and 76mm), Metallic Strips are particularly

effective in 3mm and 5mm widths.

Available in a range of six colours at 5mm wide, Karndean Feature

Strips can be used on tile floors to give the effect of a natural grout

line. They can also be used to create a very subtle border or ships

decking effect to complement woodplanks.

The most effective type of decorative strip is a Design Strip. A Design

Strip has been cut from an actual tile or woodplank. There is a versatile

pallet of colours to choose from with varying tones and textures

each of which are available in five widths: 3, 5, 10, 30 and 76mm.

If you want to add personality to your Karndean floor, you might decide to incorporate one of our border options.

Borders are available in a wide range of designs so you’ll be able to choose one to suit the style of your room.

A simple and affordable way of creating a decorative edging around

your room is to include a Tramline border.

Tramline borders are easy to choose and are made up of a

combination of Design, Feature and Metallic Strips (see page 88-

89) giving you an array of widths and colours to choose from.

Creating a Tramline border

To create a Tramline border follow the simple steps below:

1. Choose a colour of Design, Metallic or Feature Strip which is

contrasting to the colour of your main floor.

2. Decide on the combination of strip widths. See examples below

for inspiration…

way as our borders. Again, for the most harmonious results, we

recommend the background colour matches that of your main floor.

A feature is the perfect way to add a centre piece

to your floor. Available in seven different designs, as

with our borders, these are custom made and

available in most colours. The standard size of a

feature is 3ft diameter and can be scaled up or down

upon request.
