Day to day affairs of running the school are being managedby the Principal assisted by appropriate staff under overallsupervision of the School Committee comprising of 3 or 4representatives of the Trust, the Principal and arepresentative of the teaching and non-teaching staff. TheSchool Building is spacious with all modern facilities and isdesigned to accommodate students from Std. I upto Std. XIIwith a seating capacity of 7,200, working in two shifts. The school does not receive any Grant-in-Aid from theGovernment and the only source of income is the amount offees collected from the students.

The Trust holds exemption u/s 80G of the Income TaxAct and is registered with the Charity Commissioner underRegistration No.E8297 (BOM) dated 17-8-1981 as a PublicCharitable Trust with the object to establish and/or runeducational institutions.

Any constructive suggestion from the parents whosechildren are being admitted to the school shall always bewelcome. The Trust Office is housed in the Yashodham HighSchool Building, Goregaon (E), Mumbai - 400 063. wheresuch constructive suggestions can be recorded with theTrustee-in-charge.

1. VASANT VIHAR HIGH SCHOOL & JUNIOR COLLEGE was foundedon 02-07-1990. The medium of instruction in the School is English.Presently, the classes are conducted for Primary (Std. I to Std. IV),Secondary (Std.V to Std. X).

2. The School prepares students for the Secondry School CertificateExamination (S.S.C.E.) and Higher Secondary Certif icateExamination (H.S.C.E.) conducted by the Maharashtra State Boardof Secondary and Higher Secondary Education.

3. The academic year of the school begins in June.4. The aim of the school is to develop all the facets of the personality

of a student through liberal education and broad curricula. The schoolstands for academic excellence, development of skills and formationof character through curricular and extra-curricular activities whichhelp to broaden the mental outlook of the students and provideopportunity to discover and develop the latent talents in them.

5. The objective of the school is to prepare the students to facechallenges of life, to encourage the creative ability, to help themunderstand their obligations to society and to inculcate humane andaesthetic values. This objective is realized by arranging variousactivit ies l ike mock parliamentary sessions, competit ions,exhibitions, field-trips, seminars, talks by eminent personalities etc.during the ‘Zero hour’. Hobby classes and free coaching for differentgames and sports are also available.

6. The school has a well-equipped Computer Laboratory and an audio-visual room with latest equipments and offers Computer Educationfor both Primary and Secondary Sections.

2. Parents seeking admission for their ward should initially fill in arequest form along with a Xerox copy of student’s final result ofprevious year from the earlier school. Admission will be granted onthe basis of merit.

3. On being granted admission, the parent/guardian will have to fill in theApplication Form and Admission Form and submit the necessarycertificates.

4. A child coming from a recognized school will be admitted only when aschool leaving certificate from the school he/she has last attended, isproduced. The school leaving certificate or transfer certificate shouldbear the recognition number of that school. In case of studentscoming from schools outside Maharashtra State the School LeavingCertificate must be countersigned by the Educational Inspector of thearea in that state from where he/she comes.

5. All withdrawals from the school can be made only on the writtenrequest for the same by the parent/guardian of the child to thePrincipal. Application for a leaving certificate should be made by theparent or guardian on the prescribed form provided in the schoolcalendar.

1. Regular Attendance is essential.

2. Students must be present in the school after holidays/vacations onthe re-opening day of the school. They must also remain presentin the school on the last working day of the school, preceding theholidays/vacations. Such absence will be viewed seriously.

3. A medical certificate will have to be produced immediately in case ofabsence due to sickness and while resuming school after sickness, amedical fitness certificate must be submitted by the student.

4. A student should not remain absent from the school except in caseof emergency. On the day on which he/she returns to school, the studentmust produce a note in the Calendar from his/her parent/ guardian statingthe reason for the absence. The School accepts no responsibility if dueto failure in producing this note from the parent/guardian, the student issent back home during class hours.

5. If the child is ill suffering from some contagious disease, the Principalshould be informed of the same within two days by the parent/guardiansupported by a medical certificate. The child should not be sent to schooltill he/she is free from any danger of carrying infection. At the time ofresuming school, the child must produce a medical fitness certificate.

6. Any student who is late in attending school, should bring with him/her awritten application from his/her parent/guardian for late attendance.School accepts no responsibility if he/she is sent home during classhours due to failure in producing such written application.

7. No student will be permitted to leave school early. No half day leavewill be granted.

EVALUATION

As per the Maharashtra Education department directive, the schoolhas adopted the Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) patternfrom the academic year 2010 -2011 for the classes I to VIII.

CCE involves Formative and Summative Evaluation throughout theyear.

The various techniques used in Formative Evaluation help in shapingthe personality of the student.(physical, intellectual, emotional andoverall development)

Summative Evaluation is done at the end of each term, whichconsists of written, oral / practical formats.

Parents should ensure that the children strictly adhere to theFormative Evaluation technique schedule (which will be given by therespective subject teachers) on calendar page nos. 142 - 144.

A student must have a minimum of 75% of attendance of the totalworking days.

For Std IX Annual promotion is done on the basis of aggregateperformance of students throughout the year. Evaluation includesproject work in E.V.S. & Physical Education; assignments in SocialScience & Mathematics.

There will be two unit tests & two terminal examinations in the year.

Promotion to the next class will be decided on the basis of relevantrules in force from time to time.

RULES FOR THE SCHOOL LIBRARY

1. The Library is open from 08.30 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. on week days.

2. Pupils will be given library cards for borrowing books and each pupilis responsible for the books taken on his/her card.

3. Books will be issued for the use of the BORROWER only.

4. A pupil can borrow or return books once a week only.

5. Books should not be kept for more than a week. At the end of eachperiod the books may, if desired, be renewed at the discretion of theLibrarian. However, for such a renewal, the book must be produced.

6. Failure to return a book on the expiry of the period of a week, thepupil will be penalised (Re.1/- per day).

7. Books must be kept clean and used carefully. No marking should bedone in the Library book. Any imperfection found in them or anydamage done to them must be reported to the School Librarian beforetaking the book home. The damage done to books or magazinesand loss of books will have to be made good by the pupil concerned.

8. Reference books and magazines cannot be borrowed or taken out ofthe Library.

9. All books must be returned in good condition before the beginning ofeach Terminal Examination and before a Leaving Certificate is issued.The borrower who fails to return a book must pay a fine equal to thevalue of the book.

10. Bags, cases and eatables must not be brought into the Library.

11. Every pupil should help to keep the Library clean and tidy and seethat the books and magazines are kept in their proper places.

12. Strict silence must be observed in the Library and conversation shouldbe kept to the minimum and sound should be low.

13. The Library should be used only for pursuing reference books, paralleltext books, periodicals and reviews.

RECOMMENDATIONS TO PARENTS

1. Since this is an English medium school, every student shouldlearn to speak and write good English. Hence at home, he/she should be given an opportunity to speak English and speakit correctly.Parents should instruct their ward that, except for Hindi /Marathi / Sanskrit / French classes, English alone should bespoken during the school hours.

2. Parents and Guardians are reminded that without their help andco-operation not much can be achieved by the efforts made bythe school to mould and improve the character of the child. Theyare earnestly requested to instill discipline.

3. Parents are earnestly requested to pursue and sign the reportsof the child, or any other remarks made by the School Authoritiesin the calendar and do the needful in the matter.

5. Parents are requested to refrain from giving any gifts to themembers of the staff.

6. Parents are requested to refrain from celebrating their children’sbirthday in school in any way.

7. If any student is found to have done damage of any kind in classor in and about the school premises, the parents/guardian willhave to make good the loss. Decision of the Principal regardingthe amount to be paid will be final.

8. Criticism of your children’s teachers in the presence of childrenshould be avoided as it encourages them to lose respect for theirteachers. In case of any grievance kindly meet the Principal.

5. If a student is to be withdrawn, one calendar month’s noticeshould be given in writing by the Parent/Guardian to thePrincipal of the School to arrange for the refund of the balanceof tuition fees. In exceptional circumstances of withdrawal, onemonth’s tuition fee in lieu of one calendar month’s notice will haveto be paid. Amount collected as Term Fee or Tuition Fee will not berefunded.

6. Students whose fees are not paid will not be allowed to sit for I and/or II Terminal Examinations.

7. Unless all dues are paid by the student, the results of theexaminations/tests conducted by the School wil l not becommunicated to the student. School Leaving Certificate will notbe issued till all the outstanding dues from the student at the time ofleaving the School are paid and clearance certificate from theconcerned authority is obtained.

8. Students who leave the School in the month previous to any vacationmust pay the fees for the vacation.

9. No deduction in fees will be allowed for vacations or for broken periodof the month. Full month’s fee will be payable if the student’s nameappears on the roll on the 1st day of the month. Admission fee willnot be refunded even if the student, for any reason, leaves the Schoolimmediately after securing admission.

10. Std. X and Std. XII students will have to pay fees till May, in themonth of January.

BUS FACILITY

The school provides bus service to the students of the Primary Sectionand Secondary Section of V.V.H.S.& JC. under the aegis of G.A.E.T.

INSTRUCTIONS:• The bus faci l i ty is extended to students only when there is an

availability of seats and is offered at the Principal’s discretion. Thisoffer can be withdrawn any time.

• Students will board and alight only at fixed bus stops. Parents andchildren are requested not to ask the driver or attendant to stop thebuses at unauthorised bus stops.

• Parents are not permitted to change the bus stops, without priorpermission.

• Children must obey and be courteous to the bus in-charge. Childrenfound misbehaving in the bus will not be allowed to continue availingthe bus facility.

• In the event of the child not being at the stop at the scheduled timethe bus will proceed without the child. It will be the responsibility of theparent/guardian to reach the child to School. In the event of there beingno one to receive the child at the stop of the return journey, the child willbe brought to the school and the parents will have to collect their childfrom the school authorities on presentation of their Identity Card.

IDENTITY CARD• Children using the bus facility need to carry a Bus ID Card issued by

the School.• In case there is a change in the residential address, the school

office must be notified immediately and a fresh ID Card must beobtained.

• If the Bus ID Card is lost, a written application requesting a dupli-cate ID Card must be submitted in the school office immediately. Thesame may be collected from the School office.

WITHDRAWAL• One month advance notice in writing must be given by the parents to

the school, in case they wish to discontinue the bus facility during theperiod June to September (Ist Instalment) / October to January(2nd Instalment). Parents must note that no refund will be made againstbus fees paid for the 3rd Instalment (February to May)

The school PTA was established on 16th Dec. 1997.Each parent of a student shall be a member of the PTA. Parent TeacherAssociation is formed within 30 days from the start of the each academicyear. Rs. 5 is collected from each member of the association towards thePTA fund. Formation of the Parent Teacher Association, election for ExecutiveCommittee is held in a democratic way. A week’s notice will be given forsuch meetings. Constitution of Executive Committee would be as follows :

Chairman :- Principal/ HeadmasterVice Chairman :- one amongst the parentsSecretary :- one amongst the teachersJoint secretary (2) :- one each from parent and teachersMember :- one each for every division amongst

parent and teachers

The term of the Parent Teacher Association members is for a period of oneacademic year. No parent can become a member of the committee withinfive years since his election to the Executive Committee (in the same section)Executive Committee generally meets once in a month.

The duties of PTA are -• To see that curriculum is completed as per schedule.• To suggest measures for the students who are weak in academics.• To help the school to plan programmes for supplementary studies.• To approve the co school programme.• To take note on getting information about tuition, tutorial and other

fee charges for co school programme of the non aided school.• PTA member should not interfere in the day to day administration of

the school.

Executive Committee ordinarily meets every month and Parents maygive their constructive suggestions to representatives to be discussedat such committee meetings. Representatives’ contact number is givenon Pg. 3 of this calendar. Minutes of such meetings is displayed onschool PTA notice board for information of parents.

In accordance with these goals, the centre offers the followingservices :

• Psycho - educational assessment.

• Remedial education for students with academic concerns /difficulties.

• Occupational Therapy

• Individual and specialized attention in classrooms by ShadowTeachers.

• Referral to other medical / Para-medical professionals as perrequirement.
