Film Poster Analysis

TITLE: The title is bold and is yellow, which helps to coincide with the theme for The Simpsons – this helps it stands out. The donut being used instead of an ‘O’ is very effective as it links in with the theme of the movie, but also stands out and adds a factor of interest.

Above the title is the logo for The Simpsons, which is a well known logo so the audience recognises the popular program

PICTURE: The bright picture of Homer is another recognisable image; so again, it catches the audience’s eye. The bright colour ,which is the same as the title, also helps to grab the attention of viewers. The image showing him stuffing his face with a donut adds an element of humour.

TEXT: There is a lack of text due to the simple, fun nature of the film, as well as the audience of the film being young, meaning that they do not want to read lots. The use of pictures is much more effective and eye catching. The only text used, apart from the title, is the release date and creator’s signature. The release date helps to advertise the film and get viewers to go and watch the film when it releases. The ordinary font style and colour is used so that focus is not taken away from

BACKGROUND: The background is very plain, using a washed out yellow, to correspond with The Simpsons theme that fades up to the top of the page into white. The background is simple so that the focal point is still the image and title.

I think this poster works well because it appeals to the film’s audience well and also fulfils its purpose, to advertise. It works so well because it is very simple, using simple colours and minimal text. They manage to stick to a house style for the brand, using the colour yellow which is a theme for the program, as well as using the same style as text used in the program, which helps to make the brand recognisable.
