2016by Jim Zaspel
For the past 34 years, women havebeen leaders in the single homebuyermarket. This means that single have
been surpassing bachelors inpurchasing and owning homes for
quite some time now.
In 2015, an impressive 15% of thesingle women market purchasedhomes while 9% of the purchases
were single men. This number hasremained the same since the year
2012.
After looking at the numbers, onemust question what is behind the
trend. History will tell you that since1968, when the Fair Housing Act was
passed and women were givenunbiased access to mortgages and
credit, women have placed a heavyemphasis on owning homes.
Here are a couple of more reasonsbehind the trend:
They have the Funds!
Although the wage gap betweenwomen and men is still an issue that
needs to be addressed, there isevidence that the issue may be well
on it’s way to being resolved.
There are cities in which more menthan women are earning $100, 000+
in income per year. These citiesinclude but are not limited to Seattle,
Charlotte, Boston, and SanFrancisco.
Space
The most popular style of home formost homebuyers, regardless ofbeing male, female, or single, is a
detached single family home. However, when it boils down to theprice in which men and women arewilling to spend on on these homes, women tend to want to spend more
for more space.
Whether or not you are a single male, female, or a realtor, it’s best to knowthe market and the caliber of buyers
that are interested in purchasing.
