    SIP PROGRESS REPORT FORMAT

    INITIAL REPORT: 3CET Report (15 days after joining the Company)

    (Secondary Data)

    AN OVERVIEW OF SIP COMPANY

    This shall have two parts viz., (I) 3CET report, covering the company,

    the customer, the competition , the environment and the technology

    and (II) a detailed SWOT analysis of the company.

    The Company

    In the initial days of commencement of SIP, a Student Intern should

    understand the company as a whole by going through various

    departments of the company. In addition, the Student Intern should

    also understand the position of the company vis--vis the industry in

    which the company is operating. In trying to understand the company,

    the following aspects may be studied :

    Marketing: Product portfolio, Distribution network, Sales force,Pricing, Promotion strategies, Customer service, Market structure,Market share, Competition, Measurement metrics.

    Human Resources: Organizationstructure , Organization chart,Senior management, Departments and Functions, Staff strength,

    Recruitment, Training and Development, appraisal and Retention

    practices etc. Retention issues, Measurement metrics.

    Operations : Functions, Processes, Facilities, Measurement metrics. Finance : Capital structure, Financial ratios, Performance metrics. Any other relevant function.

    The Customers

    During the initial period of SIP, the student Intern should understand

    the products of the company and the customer profile. Effort should be

    made on various aspects of understanding the customers, their

    segmentation, product positioning , buying pattern, etc.

    The Competition

    A Student Intern is also expected to understand the competitors for

    the products marketed by the SIP Company.

    The Environment

    It is essential for the intern to understand the micro economic

    environment in which the SIP company is operating. The national and

    international environment which has influence on Companys

    performance also needs to be studied.

    The Technology

    Student intern should focus on the technology platforms and specific

    ERP packages relevant for the Company. It is important to get insightsinto the pre and post-technology productivity of people, customer

    service, grievance redressed, etc.

    SWOT Analysis

    A Student Intern is expected to study the economic environment in

    which the company is operating, understand its progress in the past

    and based on the same, analyze the strengths, weaknesses,

    opportunities and threats to the company. The SWOT analysis should

    provide insights into the companys future prospects and strategic

    directions.

    Whos Who

    The student Intern should know and prepare a report on (I) The

    immediate operations term including the company guide and

    supervisors, (II) departmental heads at the SIP Company and (III) the

    chief Executive Officer/the Managing Director and the other top

    management team members of the company.

    Business Objectives

    The Intern should clearly document the specific goals for SIP.

    FINAL EVALUATION (AT THE END OF SIP)

    Report

    Successful SIP shall enhance placement opportunity for a Student

    Intern. It is therefore essential that the student is result oriented and

    marks value addition to SIP Company. In the final evaluation, the

    student Intern should prepare a report on his/her SIP covering the

    following aspects:

    A. Target/ Task setB. Strategy adoptedC. Analysis of Performance vs. Target. Reasons for variance, if anyD.Problems/Constraints/LimitationsE. Learning during SIPF. Awards/rewards received during SIP including earnings

    Presentation

    The presentation on SIP by the Intern is an important component of

    the SIP. Both the student Intern and the Faculty Guide must work to

    make this final presentation.

    Presentation should be planned for about 10-15 minutes.

    REPORT WRITING: GENERAL INSTRUCTION

    The general structure of a project report should consist of 3 main divisions:

    A. Preliminary SectionB. Main SectionC. Reference Section

    A.THE PRELIMINARY SECTION SHOULD CONSIST OF THEFOLLOWING:

    Title page Acknowledgement Approval of the faculty guide Declaration of the summer intern (trainee) Table of contents List of tables List of figuresB.THE MAIN SECTION OF THE REPORT SHOULD CONSIST OF THE

    FOLLOWING:

    Introduction Literature secondary data Including data collection methods etc. Sample and analysis of data Summary and conclusionC.REFERENCE SECTION Bibliography Appendix Index

    MS Word and MS Excel should be used for composing the project report.

    SIP Support expected from Faculty Guide

    It is needless to mention that SIP is acritical learning component in the

    entire structure of Post graduate Diploma in Management and Faculties are

    expected to play a mentoring role to help the student and work in close

    liaison with the project guide of the recruiting organization to ensure that

    the deliverables are commensurate with expectation from both the

    institution as well as the recruiting organization.

    A. Each faculty will be allocated a limited number of students forguidance and handholding during the tenure of SIP.

    B. Faculties are requested to touch base with the project guide on aperiodic basis (fortnightly is a recommended frequency) to make sure

    progress in happening in desired direction and any issues can be

    addressed without delay.

    C. The interaction of the faculty with the project guide can be throughtelephone, e-mail or face-to-face meetings.

    D.It is expected that the Faculty will visit the recruiting organizationonce, if necessary during the tenure internship the cost of travel will

    be borne by the institution. These meetings will help to build a close

    relation between the institution and its industry partners fostering

    mutually rewarding engagements.

    E. The faculty guide is requested to ensure that the students follow strictdiscipline and other rules of the recruiting organization so that the

    goodwill of UWSB should be reported to the Director Academic

    immediately and corrective measures may be taken with urgency in

    consultation with the Director Academic. Any action taken on the

    student should be mentioned in writing to the student and this should

    be under the signature of Director Academic. The Faculty guide and

    the Dean reserve complete right to take any measure and action as

    deemed fit.

    F. The Faculty guide is requested to ensure that Utmost confidentiality of the company data/information is mentioned

    throughout the internship period and thereafter.

    Due diligence is done in the project work plagiarism, short cuts orclassification of reports to be dealt with appropriately.

    Milestones of the project as mentioned in the part of the bookletunder STUDENTS are followed

    Final evaluation of SIP is done based on confidential report of theproject guide, continuous assessment of progress, quality of report

    submitted and quality of presentation made.

    The final marks are forwarded to examination controller with adequate(The structure of evaluation and allocation of marks on each aspect

    will be intimated separately to all the Faculty guides from the

    Academic Director.
