Peel Public Health provides dental screening in Peel elementary schools as required by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.

A Registered Dental Hygienist will be visiting your child’s school to provide dental screening in select grades.

What is a Dental Screening?

A dental screening is a quick visual check of a child’s mouth.

Dental screening consists of a look in the mouth using a separate, sterilized mouth mirror for each child.

You will only be notified if your child requires dental care. Your child will bring home an important letter about their dental care needs. If you cannot afford to take your child to the dentist, your child may be eligible for Peel Public Health Oral Health Programs.

A dental screening does not replace regular dental visits.

If you DO NOT wish to have your child participate in the dental screening, fill in the School Screening Exemption form (which will be given out by your child’s teacher), and give completed form to your child’s teacher.

For more information, call Peel Public Health at 905-799-7700 or visit www.peelregion.ca/dental

Dental screening for Sir Isaac Brock will take place on January 14 and 15 for JK, SK, Gr. 2 and Gr. 8 students only. A letter will be sent home before the Winter Break.

Fitness Fun with Mr. Mathew

As a wrap-up to our Anti-bullying week, 20 students were chosen from our school to attend a Brampton A’s basketball game

and an anti-bullying concert and presentation. This event was organized by the Peel District School Board and all of our

students had a great time! The Team members from the Brampton A’s will be visiting our school on December 12, 2014 to

speak to our students about relationships, feeling alone and overcoming obstacles.

Our Bobcat boys and girls junior and senior teams are busy practicing for the volleyball tournaments. The senior tournaments

will be held at SouthFields Village P.S. This year, Sir Isaac Brock will host our 1st tournament, which will be the junior girls

volleyball tournament on December 10, 2014 and the junior boys volleyball tournament on December 11, 2014. All parents of

players are invited to watch their children play during all of the tournament days.

Remember to stay active with your Family and have Fun getting Fit.

LEGO Robotics Tournament

On Saturday, December 6th, about 20 students from Sir Isaac Brock PS will be participating in the First Lego League (FLL)

qualification tournament at Tomken Road Middle School in Mississauga. FLL is an international organization and has thousands

of teams from all around the world participating (at different qualification tournaments around the globe).

The theme of this year's competition is 'World Class'; students are exploring different ways in which we learn. Selected students

from Grades 4-8 have been divided into two teams- Bobcats and Wildcats. They have been working on building, programming,

inventing and presenting using specific software and Lego Robots. We wish them well at the tournament and we know they

will represent our school with pride and integrity.

Help your family stay warm this winter

Canada Safety Council recommends the following tips for

staying comfortable and preventing hypothermia when

working or playing outdoors:

Wear a warm hat—most body heat is lost through the head.

Children should keep an extra hat at school.

Wear layered clothing. Layers allow warm air to stay trapped

around the body.

Protect your feet and hands. Wear loose waterproof boots. If

the boots have liners, carry an extra pair to replace damp ones or

take an extra pair of socks. Mittens are warmer than gloves.

Carry an extra pair of mittens to school, on outings, etc.

Prevent dehydration and exhaustion, which can lead to

hypothermia. Drink plenty of fluids and pace yourself when

doing vigorous activities.

Stay fit by exercising and eating well—people who are fit are

less susceptible to hypothermia.

If you stay indoors, avoid moving from a hot environment to

a cold one. Excessive sweating caused from an extreme change

in temperature increases the risk of developing

hypothermia.

Eat high-energy food such as nuts and raisins.

If you are travelling (on the road or in the wilderness) carry

emergency supplies.

Traffic safety in our community

Safety is a top priority at our school. Here is a list of traffic tips to keep students, staff and parents safe while commuting to and

from school.

Respect traffic signs and road markers around the school.

Drive slowly and with caution on and near school property. Adhere to the posted speed limits on any surrounding streets

used by students on their way to and from school.

Always yield to pedestrian traffic. Wait for students, staff members and parents to cross before driving past them.

When dropping your child off at the school, use the Kiss'n'Ride area. This is a supervised area that is designed to keep

students safe.

Do not double park or do anything else to block traffic or draw your child off the curb and into traffic. Do not take shortcuts

over curbs.

Have your child ready to exit the car when you reach the curb. Say goodbye to your child before you park at the curb to let

your child out of your car.

During regular drop-off times, students are to remain in the car until it is safe for them to exit the car onto the curb.

Follow the directions of staff or volunteers on duty in the school parking lot and treat staff, students, volunteers, passengers

and other drivers with respect.

Consider parking off site and walking a short distance to school. This will give you time to talk to your children about their

day, review new vocabulary words, math concepts, etc.

Remind your child to only cross the street at an intersection or crosswalk. They should never “jaywalk” by crossing in the

middle of the street.

Students who bike to school should always wear a helmet, and follow all traffic laws. They should only cross the street at a

crosswalk or intersection—never in the middle of the road.

All students who make the registration deadline will be placed in a random selection process and assigned a rank using

a computerized random selection process. Spots are not assigned on a first come, first served basis. Once students have been

assigned to all available spots, remaining students will be placed, again in rank order, on the school's waitlist.

Some students will be automatically placed in grade 1 FI. To find out if your child does not need to participate in the random
