BABY'S   MATINEE   COATS(Age Birth/6 months)

To obtain a perfect reproduction of the garments illustrated on the front cover of this leaflet you MUST read and followthe instructions laid down in the paragraphs numbered 1 and 2. These instructions are the work of an expert knitterand if followed carefully satisfactory results cannot fail to be achieved.

No.1   TENSION

This paragraph is most important-read   itcarefully before commencing your garments.

You have obtained the correct SIRDAR WOOL, you   have   obtained the correct Needles, but TO OBTAIN THECORRECT MEASUREMENTS it is essential that you work to the tensions stated. The one-inch rule at the side of each tension indicates the number of stitches to the inch " ..d   is for your guidance. PLEASE USE   IT.

We suggest you work a small sample in each stitch before commencing the garments,   then place the one-inch ruleacross it and see if your tension corresponds.

Ifyou are unable to obtain the correct tension, proceed as follows:-

Ifyou have less than the number stated use a   finer   needle.Ifyou have more stitches than the number stated use a coarser needle.

3RD Row. SI.I, purl to the last st., k.l.

Repeat the 2nd and 3rd rows once, the 3rd row twicethen the 2nd and 3rd rows twice.

Cast off.

With the right side of the work facing, rejoin the wool

TO MAKE UP THE COAT

Do not press the pattern. Press the remainder carefullyon the wrong side under a damp cloth with a hot iron.Sew up the sleeve seams. Placing the sleeve seams tothe centre of the armhole shapings, sew up the under-arm seams. Sew the remainder of the front borders toS rows of the neckband. Turn the neck band in half onto the right side of the work and sew in position to the

last decrease row of the Yoke. Thread the ribbonthrough the neckband. Sew on buttons to correspondwith the buttonholes.

Press all seams.

Placing seam to seamsew the decreased edges of the sleeves to the decreasededges of the bodice. Sew the front borders in positionending at the commencement of the neck shaping.

With the right side of the work facing and using theM.C. wool, commencing 3 sts. in from the front edgepick up and knit 14 sts. evenly along the right side of theneck, 8 sts. from the sleeve top, 14 sts. from the 14cast off sts. at the back of the neck, 8 sts. from theother'   sleeve top and 14 sts. evenly along the left sideof the neck, ending 3 sts. in from the front edge. (58sts.).
