IntroductionThe SIRIUS Home Satellite Radio Receiver mustbe connected to the windowsill antenna (supplied)to process the SIRIUS signal. The Receiverrecognizes and decodes the incoming SIRIUSprogram information and provides an audio signalto your stereo receiving equipment or other audiooutput equipment.NOTE: The SIRIUS signal can be received andprocessed virtually anywhere as long as there areno obvious obstructions such as nearby buildings, high terrain, parking garages or tunnels whichwould block the satellite antenna from having aclear view of the sky. The Receiver is typicallyinstalled in an accessible location close to yourstereo receiving equipment to permit integrationas part of your home stereo system.

Installing Your SIRIUS ReceiverYou can begin to enjoy Sirius Satellite Radio assoon as the Receiver installation is complete. Setup your Receiver using the following installationinstructions.

Installation/Wiring Precautions1. Make sure the power supply adapter cable is

not connected to an AC wall outlet until allinterconnections have been made andverified. The power supply adapter cableshould be connected last.

2. Do not install the Receiver in the locationsexposed to direct sunlight or in areas subjectto extreme temperatures.

3. Incorrect installation may cause damage tothe system.

4. During antenna placement/installation, referto the Antenna Placement procedure on page12.

SR-H550 User Guide 11

Cabling InterconnectionsSet up your system using the diagram at the rightand by following the installation instructions, orenlist the help of a professional installer.

Installing/Positioning the AntennaFor best reception, the supplied antenna shouldbe placed near a window; some repositioning maybe required to achieve optimum results. Thefollowing guidelines are recommended:

1. Terrestrial repeaters are located in major cities. In those areas, it may be possible to locate thewindowsill antenna away from a window andstill get satisfactory reception.

2. You can also place the antenna outside (on aroof structure), provided it is clear of anyoverhead obstructions.

NOTE: Because of the orbiting characteristics ofthe SIRIUS satellites, the strength of the SIRIUSsignal may change over time. In most caseshowever, the signal should be availablecontinuously. If you experience a loss of signal oraudio, reposition the antenna inside the home oroutside as necessary.

Antenna PlacementConsult the map for the direction in which to pointthe antenna. Aim the portion of the antenna withthe logo on it toward the location indicated by theX on the map. To ensure strong reception in yourhome, observe the following antenna placementconsiderations:

1. BEST reception can be achieved by placing theantenna outside on the roof. The antenna iswaterproof. This position will afford the bestview of the sky for best reception. When placedin this location, an antenna extension cablemay be required.

2. BETTER reception can be achieved by placingthe antenna outside a window, or by mountingit to the side of the house. In either case, try toachieve the best possible clear view of the sky.

3. GOOD reception can be achieved by placingyour antenna in or near a window, sinceterrestrial transmitters are used in majormetropolitan areas to boost signal strength. Inthese cases, the antenna can be placed insidethe home. Try to achieve a clear unobstructed

view of the sky.

This can be a useful tool for positioningthe antenna in an optimal location for maximumsignal reception.

4. Turn the Receiver and listen for audio. If noaudio is heard, aim the antenna in differentdirections until audio output is heard. This isthe desired antenna aiming position.

5. After determining the optimum antenna aimingposition, turn the Receiver off, disconnect thepower adapter from the wall outlet receptacle, and disconnect the antenna cable.

6. Plan the routing of the antenna cable to theReceiver. Be sure you avoid any obstructionsthat could crimp, kink, or twist the cable. Useprotective grommets wherever rough openingsare encountered.

7. If the antenna is mounted outside, route thecable from the antenna position to the interiorof the home, working the cable through thebasement, under a window sill, etc., and makeadjustments and take up slack whenevernecessary.

8. Plug the antenna cable into the ANTENNAconnector on the back of the Receiver.
