As we were on our way out last week, I realised that it had rained the night before and that I didn’t have any old footwear. I decided I needed to go shopping somewhere that sold cheap shoes for women as they were only going to be for days like that. It got me thinking about all the things we do as a family that involve old shoes! I best buckle up and buy some!
In my household we stick to one rule. Sunday is family day. It’s the day when we have aunts and uncles round for dinner before doing something that will involve everyone. Because of the recent spurt in nice weather, we’ve taken to taking the dogs out in the afternoon. We usually visit forests or beaches for a nice long walk (for the dogs and for us!).

WalksWe’re always taking the dogs out for a good run. What started as a Sunday thing has now turned to a Saturday activity and sometimes a day in the week when we’re all free. Whether we go to the beach, the lake or the forest, you can guarantee that I will get muddy. For a start I’m a target for the dogs and I just love jumping about in the puddles and mud with my nephew.

CocklingThis is a pretty random thing for most people, but we tried it last year and loved it. You wait until the tide is out and scour the coast looking for cockles. I would never eat them but my mum’s partner loves to boil them up and have them with a salad. They’re also great to use as bait. Either way, it’s a messy wet job that you wouldn’t want to be wearing your expensive high heels for.

ArtOkay, this one is random! My mum came across this massive roll of paper at the car boot sale. It’s got to be a meter in width and easily100 meters long. She bought it for my nephew so he would stop taking the paper out of the printer. He loves tearing bits off and using it to his heart’s content. Last year we found some old shoes and covered the soles with paint. We loved creating pictures out of the prints but my mum wasn’t too keen on the painted stones in the garden!.
