The most brilliant student in Plato's academic was Aristotle.

Aristotle is known as “THE FATHER OF WESTERN CRITISIAM.

He was a versatile genius.

Aristotle’s contribution the history such as logic, Ethics, political, literary criticism etc.

INTRODUCTION ABOUT AUTHOR:

“Tragedy then is an imitation of and action that is serious complete and of a certain magnitude; in the language embellished with each kind of artistic ornaments the several kinds being found in separate part of the play in the form of action not of narrative, through pity and fear effecting the proper purgation catharsis of these and similar emotion”.

According to Aristotle, tragedy should be more realistic.

he says, “Tragedy ‘show’ rather than ‘tells’”.

This elements include the means of,

Imitation [ diction and song] The manner of Imitation [ Spectacle ] The object of Imitation [ plot, character,

and Thought ]

According to Aristotle, “ PLOT IS THE SOUL OF TRAGEDY” Plot is the ‘first principal’ and most important element among

these six. Aristotle defines, plot is.. “THE HAREMONIOUS ARRENGEMENT OF THE INCIDENTS” Plot divide in two part: 1] SIMPLE PLOT 2] COMPLEX PLOT Plot may be simple or complex but complex plot is better then

simple plot. Simple plot have only a “CHANGE OF FORTUNE “

1) PLOT :-

Complex plot have both “Reversal of intension” and “ Recognition”

Both connected with the catastrophe.The plot is “ THE END AT WHICH TRAGEDY

AIMS”

Man and women who act character fell during their career in the development of the plot express the speech the dialogue.

Aristotle suggests that character should be “LIKE”

Main character’s life “REALISTIC” in the tragedy.

2) CHARACTER

Song is one of these embellishments.

Song or melody is musical element of this chorus.

Aristotle argues that the chorus should be fully integrated in to the play like an actor.

Song is simply pleasurable accessory and therefore it is More important to the tragedy.

3) SONG:-

Diction is medium of language and expression.

In modern sense it means “ CHOICE OF WORDS”.

Diction it doesn't mean that language should be common, simple and suitable for that character.

“expression of the meaning in words”

Aristotle particularly interested in metaphors.

4) DICTION:-

Aristotle says ‘ thought, on the other hand, is shown in all they say when proving or disproving some particular point or enunciating some universal position.

“ where something is proved to be or not to be or a general maxim is enunciated”

A play embodies the vision or the idea of the playwright.

They expressed through the character and their speeches.

5:) THOUGHT

The spectacle is the pleasure of tragedy.

Spectacle is the overall visual appearance of the stage and the actor.

Spectacle related with the stage performance not of mere closet-reading.

Aristotle recognizes the emotional attraction of spectacle.

“ create a sense, not of the terrible, but only of the monstrous”

6:) THE SPECTACLE

All this been the discussion of Aristotle’s concept of tragedy. In the every kind of representational literature ,plot has its

own important place, character are bound to be there though they maybe of different types; it will have a definite central thought expressed in in appropriate diction and technically.

Finally, it will have its own end or purpose in the place of catharsis.

Similarly, they have their own thought way of presentation and spectacle

“ IN GIVING THIS THEOERY OF TRAGEDY, HE HAS GIVEN AS SOMETHING VERY LIKE ATHEORY OF FINE ART”
