Six Pieces for Children is a suite of miniatures selected from the collection of short piano pieces For Children (Volumes 1 and 2) by Béla Bartók and orchestrated for wind quintet. The first and fifth movements, based on Hungarian folk tunes, appear in Volume 1, whilst the other movements, based on Slovakian folk tunes, are taken from Volume 2. Each movement features a different member of the ensemble in a melodic role, until the sixth movement, where melodic phrases are passed around the group and also shared between instruments.
