Short Biography

Alexander Berkman (November 21 1870 – June 28 1936) was a Russian-

American writer and a leading member of the anarchist movement of the 19th

and early 20th centuries. He was the lover of Emma Goldman. In 1892, he tried

to kill Henry Clay Frick because of his involvement with the Homestead Strike.

During World War I, he was deported along with Emma Goldman and other

foreign-born American anarchists as a result of the Anarchist Exclusion Act.

Continuing to write and speak to the poor, Berkman died in France in 1936.

Amerikaanse schrijver en een vooraanstaand lid van de Anarchistische

Beweging van de 19e en begin 20e eeuw. Hij was de minnaar van Emma

Goldman. In 1892 probeerde hij Henry Clay Frick te vermoorden vanwege zijn

betrokkenheid bij de Homestead Strike. Tijdens de Eerste Wereldoorlog werd

hij gedeporteerd samen met Emma Goldman en andere buitenlandse geboren

Amerikaanse Anarchisten als gevolg van de “Anarchist Exclusion Act.” Hij

bleef schrijven en spreken aan de armen, Berkman stierf in Frankrijk in 1936.

Russo-Américain et un membre important du mouvement Anarchiste du 19ème

et début du 20ème siècles. Il était l'amant d'Emma Goldman. En 1892, il a

essayé d’assassiner Henry Clay Frick à cause de sa participation à la grève de

Homestead. Au cours de la Première Guerre mondiale, il a été expulsé avec

Emma Goldman et autres Anarchistes américains nés à l'étranger à la suite de la

Loi d'Exclusion Anarchiste. Il continue à écrire et à parler aux pauvres,

Alexander Berkman est mort en France en 1936.
