Sixth Grade Math

4th and 5th grade assessment data points are utilized for 6th grade placement decisions.

Standardized test scores on MAP and IAAT are used for placement.

The 3 levels of math students place into are: on-level 6CC, advanced 7CC, and accelerated 7/8CC or 8CC.

All criteria must be met for placement into advanced or accelerated math.

D181 has a process to appeal placement if a student meets the appeal guidelines.

Summer Bridge CoursesThe summer math bridge (MB) courses were developed for students entering grades 3 and above who qualify and are recommended to accelerate their math pathway within District 181. Each course provides in-depth instruction, practice, and assessment for standards needed to bridge to an advanced/accelerated math pathway.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Bridge 5A(on-level to advanced)

This course is designed for students who have qualified for placement in 6th grade advanced math. This course provides instruction on the 6th grade standards that will support success in the 6th grade advanced math course, which teaches 7th grade standards.

Bridge 5B(advanced to accelerated)

This course is designed for students who have qualified for placement in 6th grade accelerated math and who were placed in 5th grade advanced math during the 2019-2020 school year. This course provides instruction on the 7th grade standards that will support success in the accelerated 6th grade math course that teaches 8th grade standards. Students who do not take Bridge 5B, and students who take Bridge 5B but do not pass the end assessment with an 80% or better, will be placed into the accelerated 6th grade math course that teaches 7th and 8th grade standards.
