The office of Grand Knight had been something I worked tirelessly to achieve and to possibly make better for all. An accomplishment I do believe has been achieved with Charity, Unity Fraternity & Patriotism as the forefront of all, though I could not have done this alone, many hands made the work lighter. Thank You to ALL my Brother Officers, the Board of Directors of the Edward J Kenny Club, for those Committee Chairman and Co-Chairs. Many of my brothers stepped up to the plate and slammed one home, I Thank You All for your support and friendship. I look forward to the new slate of officers and I ask all to support them as you have supported me.

COLUMBIETTES
CORNER
Dear Sister Columbiettes:
Dear Sister Columbiettes:
Spring has finally arrived and we move forward to the last
two meetings of our Columbiette calendar year.
We had a tremendous successful fundraiser, our
Supermarket Bingo on March 21. Thanks to Corinne Clark,
Chairperson for all of her hard work in organizing this event.
We had many people who worked that evening, Joan
Chwalisz, Fran Duffy, Barbara Maier, Marie Dunker, Anne
Murphy, Marie Hubschman, Carmela Lancaster, Diana
Sturges, Kathy Dolan and Maureen Montalbano. I hope I
remembered all who helped. We had approximately 130
people attend, one of the largest crowds in years. A good time
was had by all and it was great to see everyone work together
to make this such a successful event.
At the end of March we had our Lenten prayer and Stations
of the Cross at St. Ignatius Church. Deacon George led us in
the Stations of the Cross. We had many members attend and it
was spiritual event for our members. Afterwards, we all went
to Friendly’s and we all enjoyed a snack.
In April, we celebrated the Passion of Our Lord and Easter.
I hope all of you had a wonderful Easter holiday and
celebration with your families.
At our April meeting we discussed and voted upon which
charities we will be donating to in June. I would like to thank
Anne Murphy, Joan Renner and Sheila Dooley for working on
this most important Committee. We will meet at the May
Board Meeting to decide the donations that will be given to
the charities chosen.
We will also award high school and college scholarships in
June. Thanks to the scholarship committee, Joan Chwalisz,
Joan LaCommare and Ronnie Brigandi for all your work on
this committee.
We look forward to our Communion Breakfast which will
be held on May 4, 2014 at the 9:30 Mass at St. Ignatius
Church. After Mass, we will all meet at the council for a great
breakfast and to hear our invited speakers. Thanks to Grace
Way for her work on this committee.
On Tuesday, May 6, there will be the Memorial Mass for
our recently deceased members. Two of our members, Carol
O’Neill and Rita DiMartini, passed away and they will be
honored at this Memorial Mass. I hope many of our members
will be able to attend.
May is the month of our Blessed Mother, our patroness. It
is also the month we celebrate Mother’s Day. I want to wish
all our ladies a wonderful Mother’s Day. Please take time this
month to pray to the Blessed Mother, especially the rosary, so
that we may honor her and become closer to our patroness.
Columbiette Meetings are held at the Joseph Barry
Council Hall, 45 Heitz Place, Hicksville, on the
fourth Tuesday of each month at 8:00. All Catholic
women, ages 18 and over, are invited to become
members. For more information call:

Brothers:
Only Having Insurance “Through Work” Doesn’t Work
Do you know anyone whose life or career has drastically changed during these years of economic downturn? It’s very likely that someone in your immediate or extended family or group of friends is facing financial uncertainty. Maybe there’s a possibility that you (or your spouse) could lose your job or change employers. Too many people have often relied on group term life insurance as their only safety net. Often, this insurance is an employee benefit provided at low or no cost. The existence of this coverage might convince someone that personally-owned life insurance is not necessary. But only having “through work” insurance can leave you and your family vulnerable. Most group life insurance policies are limited in amount, which may be tied to salary or some other benchmark. These numbers are often capped, and this cap may be dangerously low when compared to your family’s actual needs. In fact, a detailed needs analysis that evaluates your specific situation, will likely show that any employer-provided coverage falls short. In addition, the amount of group insurance offered is almost always reduced, sometimes dramatically, when you retire. You could one day find yourself without coverage, and if your health has changed (which it will as you age), you might also find yourself unable to secure individual protection. At the very least, it will definitely be more expensive. While group life insurance can help, it does not replace the need for individually owned life insurance. I’ll be happy to meet with you and provide a no-cost needs analysis, so you’ll know exactly where you stand.
