Doubts and SinSkeletons in the closet Sins of the past holding us back, causing us
to doubt!
Maalik ibn Dinar (r) said:
Faith starts in the heart weak and feeble like a plant. If its owner takes
– care of it and nourishes it with beneficial knowledge and righteous deeds, and
– keeps away from it weeds and things that will make it weak,
then soon it will
– develop roots and branches, and will
– bear fruit and
becomes like a mountain.
But if its owner neglects it and does not take care of it, a goat will come and eat it, or a child will come and take it,
and the weeds will grow and overshadow it and destroy it.
The same applies to faith.
Khaythamah ibn ‘Abd al-Rahmaan said:
Faith grows strong in fertile soil and grows weak in arid soil. Its fertile soil is righteous deeds and its arid soil is sin and disobedience. Quoted by Ibn Taymiyah in al-Eemaan, p. 213.
The battle
“By your glory, I shall strive to lead your slaves astray so long as their souls are in their bodies.’
Allah said:
“By my glory and majesty, I shall continue to forgive them so long as they ask me for forgiveness.’”

Satan said,
"because you have put me in error, i will surely sit in wait for them on your straight path.

Then i will come to them from before them and from behind them and on their right and on their left, and you will not find most of them grateful [to you]."7:16-17

Sin willingly, blatantly, remorselessly
Do whatever you want
Leave the sin due to remorse, regret, guilt,
Battling nafs
Allahs obedience gives them solace
State of peace, tranquil self,
Peace from doing sin and desiring sin
Desoires only the good things
Weakening
• If this seed of iman is not watered throughout the day/week
• Five daily prayers
• We will begin to slip .....

Sin

“Say: O ‘Ibaadi (My slaves) who have transgressed against
themselves (by committing evil deeds and sins)! Despair not of the
Mercy of Allaah, verily, Allaah forgives all sins. Truly, He is
Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful” [surah Zumar:53]
The three left behind!
And [He also forgave] the three who were left alone [i.e.,
boycotted, regretting their error] to the point that the
earth closed in on them,
in spite of its vastness and their souls confined [i.e.,
anguished] them
and they were certain that there is no refuge from Allah
except in Him. Then He turned to them so they could
repent. Indeed, Allah is the Accepting of Repentance, the
Merciful. Taubah:118

• Comitts the sin rarely (not frequent)
• Consisternt and persistent, does not seperate from him till he seperates from this life
• A believer has been created to be tested, Allah tests us in many ways, through calamities, fitan, sins.
• But the quality of a believer is that he frequently repent!
The sin that takes you to Paradise
What is the hasanat doing to you and what is the Sayyiat doing to you.!
A Believers sin
• My kids cant “know I've missed a day”
Allah’s happiness at ones turning to him

And said, 'Ask forgiveness of your Lord. Indeed, He is ever a Perpetual Forgiver.

He will send [rain from] the sky upon you in [continuing] showers

And give you increase in wealth and children and provide for you gardens and provide for
you rivers. (Surah Nuh)
Commit the sin
1. Never lost hope in
Allah’s Mercy and Forgiveness
O my sons, go and find out about Joseph and his brother and despair not of relief from Allah. Indeed, no one despairs of relief from Allah except the disbelieving people." —12:87

Hope in Mercy
Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah (saws), said,
“A man had indulged himself in sin. When death approached, he enjoined his sons, saying: When I die you should burn me,
pulverize me, and scatter me to the winds over the sea.
By Allah, if Allah is capable, He will punish me in such a way as He has not punished anyone else. They did that to him and when he stood
before his Lord, Allah said to him:
What made you do what you did? The man said: Fear and awe of You, O Lord.
Thus, Allah forgave him due to that.”

Words of Mercy
The Prophet (sall Allahu alayhi wa sallam) said,
“When Allah created dam and blew within him the soul, dam
sneezed.
He said, “Alhamdulillah” so His Lord said,
“O dam, Allah has mercy upon you.”
These were the first words which the ears of man heard from llah.”
Giving up hope in the mercy of Allah is far worse than any sin anyone is to commit.”
Shaitan tries to take your hope
“That’s hypocrisy”!
You cant pray If you are here!
You’ve been doing this for months, years! Shame on you to ask Allah again!
You promised you would not do it again? Allah will be angry with you!
Mercy upon mercy
In a Hadith Qudsi, Allah says:
“O son of Adam, as long as you call upon Me and put your hope in Me,
I have forgiven you for what you have done and I do not mind.
O son of Adam, if your sins were to reach the clouds of the sky and then you seek My
forgiveness, I would forgive you.
O son of Adam, if you were to come to Me with sins that are close to filling the earth and
then you would meet Me without ascribing any partners with Me,
I would certainly bring you forgiveness close to filling it.”
[Al-Tirmidhi]
Even more Mercy
The Prophet Muhammad reported that the devil said to God: “I shall continue to lead Thy servants astray as long as their spirits are in their bodies.” And God replied: “(Then) I shall continue to pardon them as long as they ask My forgiveness.” (Tirmidthi)
When Allah completed the creation, He wrote in His book with Him upon the Throne: Verily, My mercy prevails over My wrath.” (Bukhari and Muslim)
“ O My servants, you sin by night and by day, and I forgive all sins, so seek forgiveness of Me and I shall forgive you. (Muslim, Tirmidthi)
2. Leave the sin
• Abu Lubaba
• Admit and acknowledge it
• Abu Masud al Ansari and the slave boy
• As good as your reasoning is and justification, a sin is a sin.
• The difference between admitting a sin and justifying it is the difference between earnings Allah's mercy and earning Allah’s curse.
• Adam and Iblis
• Sayyid Istighfaar
• Admit the sin before Allah, learn to embarrass ourselves before Allah
Its too hot!Not your fault
I was just defending,
I didn't start it
mean it!
4. Don’t size the sin!
Al- Awzaa’ee said: “Once I heard Bilaal Ibn Sa’d saying,
‘Do not look at how small the sin is but instead look at how
great is the One that you have disobeyed.’
[Al-Hilya, 5/223]
good deed

And establish prayer at the two ends of the day and at the approach of the night. Indeed, good deeds do away
with misdeeds. That is a reminder for those who remember. 11:114l
• Salah, zakah, fasting, helping people, a step to the masjid, a smile, a gift
• Action
Know your Lord
Talk to Allah
In a Hadith Qudsi, the Prophet has narrated what Allah says when a person recites the surat al-Fatiha.
The person says, "In the Name of Allah, the All-Merciful, the Compassionate", and
Allah says, "My servant mentions Me".
The servant then says, "Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds," and
Allah says in his turn, "My servant lends Me grace."
The servant then says "The All-Merciful, The Compassionate, " and
Allah replies "My servant praises Me." T
The servant says, "Master of the Day of Judgement," and
Allah says, "My servant glorifies Me and submits himself to Me."
NOW YOU HAVE A RELATIONSHIP WITH ALLAH…
The servant says, "You alone do we worship and unto You alone do we turn for help," and
Allah says, "This is shared between Me and My servant, and My servant will receive that which he asks."
When the servant says, "Guide us to the Straight Path, The path of those whom You have favoured, Not those who have incurred Your wrath, nor those who are astray,"
