The German Academy for International

Cooperation in Bad Honnef is GIZ’s

training centre, delivering the quali!ca-

tions required for international cooperation.

Its extensive programme is designed for all

professionals working in this !eld:

personnel working on international pro-

grammes,

-

sentatives of the business community and inter-

national donor institutions,

German international cooperation.

Course participants learn with and from

each other. Tailor-made courses are also avail-

able for family members. For example, educa-

tion specialists work with children through

the medium of play and in an age-appropriate

way to help them adjust to life in another

country.

Learning as a biographical process

‘Our concept of professional training and devel-

opment for today’s world builds on people’s life-

long learning and personal development capaci-

ties by fostering a positive response to new chal-

lenges. We rely on self-re"ection and holistic

learning, and encourage participants to set

themselves personal development goals and

identify their own pathways to achieving them,’

says Bernd Krewer, the Academy’s Director.

#e courses available at the Academy sup-

port participants through every stage of their

international deployment: from preparing to

work abroad to project-related activities and

debrie!ng.

The Learning Landscape at the German Academy

The E-Academy and Leadership Work-

countries engaged in international coopera-

tion with Germany. E-learning can be utilised

speci!cally for skills development for manag-

ers in the partner countries. With these o$ers,

the Academy is ful!lling its aspiration to pro-

vide services to all international development

actors, regardless of their country of origin,

and sees learning and skills development not as

a one-way street but as a form of intercultural

dialogue.

#e Academy also contributes to the cur-

rent debates about adult education and organi-
