Patients with incontinence are at high risk for skin damage• Skin damage in hospitalized patients has been reported to be as high

Strengthen your Pressure Ulcer Prevention Program and Avoid Costs Associated with Skin Damage Incontinence is a risk factor in the development of Pressure Ulcers• Moisture on the skin increases friction and friction

is a component of shear which can contribute to pressure ulcer formation

• Pressure ulcers cause patient suffering and increase the costs of health care

• Prevention of avoidable pressure ulcers is a clear indicator of the quality of nursing care

Incontinence often results in Incontinence-Associated Dermatitis (IAD)• Exposure to urine or urine and stool causes

inflammation; resulting skin damage can range from erythema to severe epidermal loss

• IAD results in patient suffering, increases the risk of secondary infection and increases cost

Application of a moisture barrier for protection of at risk skin is recommended in widely recognized pressure ulcer prevention guidelines and IAD best practice documents.(3, 4)

With Cavilon No Sting Barrier Film you can be confident that you have an effective barrier and excellent patient comfort.

2) Evidence-based, with over 70 pieces of clinical evidence supporting the efficacy and cost-effectiveness of Cavilon No Sting Barrier Film for multiple clinical uses, including prevention and treatment of IAD.(9) This represents more evidence than any other moisture barrier or barrier film.

Using Products Wisely

• Reapply every 8–24 hours, depending on the frequency of incontinence

• For incontinence—reapply every 24–72 hours. For patients at higher risk of skin damage (e.g. constant diarrheal stooling) more frequent application may be necessary (every 12 hours)
