The FactsSurgical Site Infections (SSIs)
2%–5% ofinpatient surgery patients develop an SSI. About 3%
of these result in death1
SSIs increase average hospital
stays from7 to 10 days1
Hospitals spend up to
$10 billion per year on costs
associated with managing SSIs1
SSIs Are Common and Costly
SSIs can emerge in superficial incisions, deep tissue or organs2
Risk factors:3 Patient-Related • Age• Weight• Smoking• Comorbid conditions
Surgery-Related• Contaminated surfaces
or instruments• Lack of adherence to skin
prep protocols• Duration of procedure
THE FACTS THE SOLUTIONTHE PROBLEM GETTING STARTED

THE FACTS THE SOLUTIONTHE PROBLEM GETTING STARTED
5
• Recent evidence-based scientific and clinical studies support pre- operative skin cleansing with Chlorhexidine Gluconate (CHG) as an important component of a strategy to reduce the risk of postoperative surgical site infections (SSIs).2, 6, 7, 13
• CHG is broad spectrum, fast-acting and persistent, making it an effective antimicrobial active ingredient for skin cleansing prior to procedures.
• The mechanical action of scrubbing with CHG helps to cleanse the skin, and rinsing removes debris, while maintaining a layer of CHG on the skin that has persistent antimicrobial effects.7
Leading organizations like AORN and the CDC
recommend patients cleanse with soap or an antiseptic
(such as CHG) prior to surgery as part of an effective strategy to
prevent SSIs 2,6
CHG skin cleansing reduces bacteria on the skin prior to surgery

The Problem
FACTORS AFFECTING PATIENT COMPLIANCE:5
Poor Compliance with CHG Skin Cleansing
of nurses in a market research study were only
SOMEWHAT CONFIDENT
that their patients were complying with CHG
cleansing instructions4
• Patient understanding of why prescribed product/ action is important for their health
• Misunderstanding of instructions
• Complexity of treatment
• Treatment tolerability

 Standardized Protocol Staff Education
 Patient Education Correct Product Usage
PROBLEM:PATIENTS MISUNDERSTAND INSTRUCTIONS
When using products at home, patients may not have the same level of guidance to ensure proper product usage.
Patients have a lot on their mind prior to surgery and can forget to cleanse as instructed.
PROBLEM:PROTOCOLS INCONSISTENT AND NOT ALWAYS FOLLOWED
Many hospitals have protocols in place for skin cleansing, but they vary across hospitals and even across departments.
Within a hospital, protocols are not always followed consistently.

Clorox HealthcareTM 4% CHG Skin Cleansing Kit is designed to drive compliance with:
1. Industry guidelines about how many times patients should cleanse prior to procedures 2. Correct product usage to achieve maximum benefit
Engineered for Compliance
Following Industry GuidelinesCompliance Driver No. 1:
Industry Best Practices for Pre-Procedural Skin Cleansing
AORNRECOMMENDATION
“The patient should beinstructed to bathe or shower
before surgery with either soap or a skin antiseptic at least the
night before or day of surgery”6
CDCRECOMMENDATION
“Shower or bathe withan antiseptic agent on atleast the night before the
operative day”2
CDC Study Supporting Recommendation: “In a study of >700 patients who received two preoperative anti-septic showers, chlorhexidine reduced bacterial colony counts ninefold (2.8x102 to 0.3) ...chlorhexidine gluconate-containing products require several applications to attain maximum antimicrobial benefit so repeated showers are usually indicated.”
THE SOLUTIONTHE PROBLEMTHE FACTS GETTING STARTED
• Adaptable for hospitals that recommend more than two cleansings
9
Correct Product UsageCompliance Driver No. 2:
Pleasant Usage Experience • Similar to using liquid soap — something that patients do every day.
• Unlike pre-saturated 2% CHG cloths, our packaging is easy to open — no sterile scissors required.
• Packaging can be used as a basin to soak the cloths with CHG at home or in-facility.
Patient Reminders • Reminder system available for patients to schedule an email, text or voicemail reminding them to cleanse.
• To schedule, visit: www.CloroxHealthcare.com/
SkinCleansing
Clear Instructions • Studies show that clear
instructions play a key role in driving compliance with short-term medications.8
• Packaging and DFUs include visual icons, which studies show are effective for promoting understanding.9

SSIs Can Reduce Hospital Profits In addition to negative clinical outcomes, SSIs can impact hospital financials. A recent JAMA study performed across 4 hospitals revealed a $2.2 million profit decrease due to SSIs.10 Additional findings include:
