An internal combustion engine is shown in Figure Q2(a). One of its fins is shown in Figure Q2(b). The fin is

simplified as rectangular fin of 120 mm long, 160 mm wide, and 1.25 mm thick. The inside wall is at a

temperature of 330oC. All side surfaces are assumed insulated, while the top and bottom surfaces are exposed

to air. The ambient air temperature is 30oC. Assume k = 0.2 W/mm/oC and h = 2 x 10-4 W/mm2/oC.

(a) Determine the steady-state temperature distribution in the fin by using three (3) one-dimensional heat

transfer elements of equal length. [15 marks]

(b) Sketch the temperature distribution. [2 marks]

(c) Total amount of heat dissipated from the fin to the ambient air. [8 marks]
