ABSTRACT
Amalina, Wafroh. 2016. Silent Card Shuffle Strategy to Teach Reading to the Eighth Grade Students of MTs N 1 Kudus in 2016/2017 Academic Year.Skripsi.English Education Department of Teacher Training and Education Faculty.Muria Kudus University. Key Words: Reading Comprehension and Silent Card Shuffle Strategy.
Reading comprehension is the process of using prior knowledge and understanding the messages of written text. In MTs N 1 Kudus, the eighth grade students had less motivation in reading a text. They seem bored and got difficulties in comprehending the text. They also felt confused what have they read. It is proved by the writer observation who found the students’ scores are under the KKM. To cover this situation Silent Card Shuffle Strategy can be an alternative strategy in teaching reading comprehension.
The objective of this research is to find out whether there is significant difference between the reading comprehension of the eighth grade students of MTs N 1 Kudus in 2016/2017 academic year before and after being taught by using Silent Card Shuffle Strategy.
This research is experimental research which used one group pre-test and post-test. The population of this research was the eighth grade students of MTs N 1 Kudus in 2016/2017 academic year. The writer used cluster random sampling to take the sample and got class VIII A as the sample with total of students is 30. The instrument of this research was test. The writer used multiple choices test which consists of 25 items.
The result of this research showed that mean of pre-test is 66 and the standard deviation is 9.94. Meanwhile the mean of post-test is 82 and the standard deviation is 7.7. Based on t-test calculation the result showed t-obtain (to) is 14.4. With the level of significance (α) 0.05 and the Degree of Freedom (df) 29, t-table (tt) is ± 2.045. Therefore, the writer rejected null hypothesis (H0) and accepted alternative hypothesis (Ha) because t-obtain (to) falls in the critical region.
After conducting this research, the writer concludes that Silent Card Shuffle Strategy is effective to be applied in teaching reading comprehension of the eighth grade students of MTs N 1 Kudus in 2016/2017 academic year. The writer suggests that the English teacher can use this strategy to make the students more active in learning process and it can solve the students’ difficulties in comprehending a text. The writer also suggests to the next researcher to apply Silent Card Shuffle Strategy in the other English skills.

ABSTRAK
Amalina, Wafroh. 2016. Silent Card Shuffle Strategy untuk Mengajar Membaca Siswa Kelas VIII MTs N 1 Kudus pada Tahun Ajaran 2016/2017. Skripsi. Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris. Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan.Universitas Muria Kudus. Dosen Pembimbing (i) Drs. Suprihadi, M.Pd. (ii) Nuraeningsih, S.Pd., M.Pd.
Berdasarkan dari hitungan t-test, hasilnya menunjukkan t-obtain (to) 14,4.
