Pure Burst doesn’t have to do any more to win trainer Wayne Vassallo’s admiration.The Token Prince-Hotburst bitch utilized her rails draw to perfection to lead throughout towin her heat of the Brisbane Cup at Albion Park on Thursday night.Next week’s rich event will be the fourth Group 1 final Pure Burst has made in her 25-racestart career. And she has already won the Group 1 Laurels at Sandown.The bitch has also been a finalist in the Group 1 Melbourne Cup and Sapphire Crown, aswell as running second in the Group 2 SA Oaks. Pure Burst held off local hopeBungendore to win by a length and three-quarters in 30.20 with four lengths to Teddy’sPride in third.Bob Giltinan has had Gunnadoo Saint for just seven days, but already he has producedthe dog to make a Group 1 final.Gunnadoo Saint rattled home to beat Ryght Way by three-quarters of a length in his heatof the Brisbane Cup. He ran 30.36 to win with nine and a half lengths to Reliable Guest inthird.Giltinan now trains Gunnadoo Saint for the Pool Buoys Syndicate headed by DeniseKavanagh. He took over training of the dog last Friday from good friend Mick Zammit whohad won seven races and run 10 placings with the dog in 22 starts including a YoungGuns victory at Albion Park on November 23.After Leica Ruby won her heat of the Cup it was the end of any chance Ken Turner had ofgetting a restful week’s sleep.Leica Ruby led throughout to become Ken and wife Ruth’s first Group 1 finalist for manyyears. She scored by a nose in 30.29 beating Token Jet with a neck to Genista Gemini inthird.

“Ken will watch that replay a thousand times tonight and he won’t sleep for the rest of the week leading upto the final,” said trainer Tony Brett.Brett could not contain his pleasure in getting Leica Ruby to the final of a feature race for the Turners. George Dailly knows a great dog when he sees one, and Cromlah Bale is pretty good according toGeorge.“Pororoca is the fastest we have had in our kennel, but Cromlah Bale is not far from him,” said George.Dailly made that statement after Cromlah Bale had staged a superb performance to win his heat of the onThursday night.He scored by three and a quarter lengths in a best-of-the-night 29.98 over Blue Punisher with two and aquarter lengths to Postman’s Mail in third.Dailly’s sister-in-law Andrea trains Cromlah Bale for Paul Wheeler.The kennel knows only too well what credentials their dog needed to be a great chance in the BrisbaneCup. They won it with Pororoca in a track record 29.66 last year.

Brisbane Cup Race Night Entertainment – SKY Channel Beach Party:

The Beach Brothers will be playing live Beach Party music all night.

The Zest Lifesavers will be in attendance to ensure that everybody punts between the flags.

Wally the Clown will be here to entertain the kids.

A Seaside Jumping Castle will also keep the kids busy.

1973 Brisbane Cup Winner & Gabba Superstar Top Simbi

The Brisbane Cup has had a few name changes when it was first run in 1972 and won by Victorian GarronCourt the race was known as the Gabba Sprint Championship. It remain that name until 1976. It was thencalled the Brisbane Cup from 1977 until 1981 changed in1982 to be known as the Coca-Cola Cup until1999 when it changed back to the Brisbane Cup. The race was conducted at the Gabba until the trackclosed in 1992 and since has been staged at Albion Park.
