MEDIA RELEASE 9th December 2006 “Sky Channel Brisbane Cup an Outstanding Final” Fastest heat winner Cromlah Bale is the 6-4 early favourite for the Sky Channel Group 1 Brisbane Cup (520m) at Albion Park next Thursday night. Albion Park bookie Haydn Flynn believes the final is a race in two, Cromlah Bale and From A Distance the two fastest heat winners. Trainer John Finn believes his Cup finalist Winsome History will need plenty of luck from his poor draw in six “I believe Cromlah Bale will be the hardest to beat,” said Finn. “I ’ve never seen From A Distance begin like that before. Jason Thompson gives his Paws of Thunder winner Suave Fella a great chance despite his box five draw for the final and price of 15-1. His past five runs have been in the Paws of Thunder, the Topgun, a special event at Sandown, and then heats of the Melbourne Cup and Brisbane Cup,” said Thompson. “I believe the box draw has opened this race right up. “The speed is on the inside and I give my dog a really good chance. His effort to win his heat was as good as any heat winner.” Wayne Vassallo was happy with box three for Pure Burst. “I t suits her, but she has got to ping to win it,” he said. Pure Burst doesn’t have to do any more to win trainer Wayne Vassallo’s admiration. The Token Prince-Hotburst bitch utilized her rails draw to perfection to lead throughout to win her heat of the Brisbane Cup at Albion Park on Thursday night. Next week’s rich event will be the fourth Group 1 final Pure Burst has made in her 25-race start career. And she has already won the Group 1 Laurels at Sandown. The bitch has also been a finalist in the Group 1 Melbourne Cup and Sapphire Crown, as well as running second in the Group 2 SA Oaks. Pure Burst held off local hope Bungendore to win by a length and three-quarters in 30.20 with four lengths to Teddy’s Pride in third. Bob Giltinan has had Gunnadoo Saint for just seven days, but already he has produced the dog to make a Group 1 final. Gunnadoo Saint rattled home to beat Ryght Way by three-quarters of a length in his heat of the Brisbane Cup. He ran 30.36 to win with nine and a half lengths to Reliable Guest in third. Giltinan now trains Gunnadoo Saint for the Pool Buoys Syndicate headed by Denise Kavanagh. He took over training of the dog last Friday from good friend Mick Zammit who had won seven races and run 10 placings with the dog in 22 starts including a Young Guns victory at Albion Park on November 23. After Leica Ruby won her heat of the Cup it was the end of any chance Ken Turner had of getting a restful week’s sleep. Leica Ruby led throughout to become Ken and wife Ruth’s first Group 1 finalist for many years. She scored by a nose in 30.29 beating Token Jet with a neck to Genista Gemini in third. “Ken will watch that replay a thousand times tonight and he won’t sleep for the rest of the week leading upto the final,” said trainer Tony Brett.Brett could not contain his pleasure in getting Leica Ruby to the final of a feature race for the Turners. George Dailly knows a great dog when he sees one, and Cromlah Bale is pretty good according toGeorge.“Pororoca is the fastest we have had in our kennel, but Cromlah Bale is not far from him,” said George.Dailly made that statement after Cromlah Bale had staged a superb performance to win his heat of the onThursday night. He scored by three and a quarter lengths in a best-of-the-night 29.98 over Blue Punisher with two and aquarter lengths to Postman’s Mail in third.Dailly’s sister-in-law Andrea trains Cromlah Bale for Paul Wheeler. The kennel knows only too well what credentials their dog needed to be a great chance in the BrisbaneCup. They won it with Pororoca in a track record 29.66 last year.
