First of all we start with a square of card measuring 26 cm by 26 cm. Then measure in from each corner 3 cm and cut off this triangle from each corner. This leaves you with the 8 sided shape of the platform itself.

To make the Sky shield platform you will need: an amount of card with a thickness of around 2 to 4 mm.Some corrugated card - available at most kids craft stores such as early learning or a hobby craft store or agreetings card making supplier. Some PVA. A sharp craft knife. A pencil and plastic ruler. A steel ruler for cutting and a cutting mat.

Next we need to construct the sides. There are 4 large sides and 4 small sides. The large ones are cut fromrectangles of card. These measure 18 cm by 4 cm. The centre point of each part of the sides is 4.5 cm, 9 cmand 13.5 cm (see diagram). The triangular cut out is 1 cm deep and 1 cm wide. The viewing/shooting portsmeasure 1 cm deep and 3 cm wide and are placed with the ports top edge level with the bottom of thetriangular cut outs. This will leave 4 viewing ports on each of the long sides.

I think the below diagram if printed, will be to the actual size. Try it and then measure it to be certain. If it isthen you can use it as a cutting template.

The smaller sides measure as a rectangle 7 cm by 4 cm. The corners are cut 1 cm from the edge to an depthof 1 cm. Then out to the edge leaving the cut outs below. The tabs are folded along the dotted line and theseglue to the longer sides.

Again I think that I have managed to make this to scale and can be used as a template. Print it and measurefirst though.

The small pieces of rectangular card stuck between each of the viewing/shooting ports are made from the cutout from the ports themselves. These are stuck on to the sides on both inside face and outside face. If yourun out then cut some more.

Corrugated card was then cut to size and stuck between these vertical struts and to the floor of the platform base to give it a constructed effect.

Next was the imperial logo. This I got from the internet originally and pasted in to publisher. It was resizedand then printed in black and white. I stuck it to the card and when it was dry it was carefully cut out with a

steel ruler and craft knife. The image below measures 15 cm by 8 cm and is the actual size of my model.Again if you wish you can print and use it as your template.

HINT: make sure to let it dry when stuck to your card before you cut it. Otherwise the paper rips/tears andmakes it awkward. When cut out flip it over and stick it to the floor of your platform.

Corrugated card is cut to size and placed around the Imperial emblem as you wish.

Ok next we have the base and the support legs of your platform. My base measures 20 cm by 20 cmalthough you can alter this to suit.

Now you need to support your platform. I chose four supports measuring: 3 cm by 7 cm by 5 cm. Which is ahollow cuboid 3 wide, 7 deep and 5 high. These were glued together and then placed under allowing a gapfor the access ramp below your Imperial emblem. The access ramp measure 4.5 cm by 6 cm and the actualramp measures 8 cm by 6 cm and was stuck to the ramp cut from the platform and secured to the base withglue. The diagrams below I think are to scale and can be printed and used as templates. Again check first.

The support struts. You will need 4 of these.

The access ramp. Stick corrugated card to theface of this with smaller measurements.

Once glued together the whole model was sprayed black. The whole model was then drybrushed with amixture of boltgun metal and undercoat black.

The blast effect around the view/shoot ports was done with a large brush and a mixture of commando khakiand bolt gun metal and the bullet holes painted with a crappy old brush that has splayed just right to look like bullet holes when dabbed on to a surface. Lucky eh?

The base was covered in PVA and then with flock grass or you can use the basing material to match your

    gaming table.

I hope you have found this tutorial helpful, its the first one I have done and I am glad I got such a positiveresponse to the model. I decided to build it on a whim and it took me a day. I will probably add a few more

bits to it including the suggestion of some way of signalling wether it is furled or unfurled during game play.

    Thanks, SpiritOfkantor.
