WELCOME

We’ve created a shortlist of some of the most classic and terrifying Hallowe’en movies of all time and are looking for your vote so we can decide what to show – please go onto our Facebook page and vote for what you’d like to see! The winning two films will be screened on 31st October at 162B Finnieston Sq. (by the security control room entrance), at 4pm and 6pm and we really hope you’ll come along and enjoy being scared witless! We’ll also have a licenced bar, popcorn and hotdog stall and FREE tickets are available from Kelly at reception from 1st October.

This issue also looks back at our fantastic summer charity event, where we raised lots of money for Cash for Kids and Barnardo's with the help of Clyde One’s George Bowie, the gorgeous Miss Scotland and ‘Flying Dutchman’ footballer Bobby Petta, who’s also a star of the silver screen himself, having appeared in World War Z and currently filming a football movie. And the event also starred you, our Skypark tenants – zipsliding and abseiling in the name of charity. We’re delighted that so many people got involved and did their very own ‘Skyfall’.

Talking of the sky and all things blue, in this issue we introduce our plans for the latest addition to the Skypark skyline – The Azure Building. This is a massive and very exciting project for us, that will enhance and expand the campus – more on this on page 4.

We’ve got a tenant focus in this edition on our new tenant, the Carers’ Trust, where we’ll tell you about the inspirational work they do on behalf of carers around the country; and also the Insurance Helpline, who are also new to Skypark – a very warm welcome to you both, as well as to our other exciting new tenants, including Caledonian Consumer Finance and Startline Motor Finance.

You can also read an interview with a vital member of the Skypark team; find out what’s happening on site (clue: lots) and win a fantastic James Bond themed prize.

At Skyline we really welcome your views and contributions so if you’d ever like to be featured, or send us your news, please just drop us a line at [email protected].

As they say in the movies, That’s all folks!

Best wishes,

Lisa & [email protected]@skypark-glasgow.com

News hot off the press! The joint venture partners in Skypark are delighted to announce plans for The Azure Building, the latest addition to its collection of high-quality office space on campus.

The Azure Building will comprise 135,000 sq. ft. of highly efficient, ‘Grade A’ office accommodation with an imposing frontage to The Clydeside Expressway and will be located adjacent to the campus’ main building, Skypark 1.

An impressive entrance lobby and south-facing landscaped terrace, car parking, showers and a cycle storage area, will ensure that The Azure Building will attract businesses looking for prestige accommodation in a great location.

Ken Barrett, of joint venture partner in Skypark, Resonance Capital said: “This launch is a massive illustration of the success of Skypark since we purchased it and began our investment programme. It has gone from being ‘the sleeping giant’, as it was known, to a highly innovative and dynamic business campus that has attracted scores of high profile tenants

A new exhibition called ‘Merge’ featuring the work of over 40 up and coming Scottish artists - from designers to costume makers and illustrators - opened on 5th September at Skypark. The exhibition organised by Creative Banter, will also feature a spin off networking event on 15th October, that aims to support the future of Glasgow’s creative scene and all Skypark creatives are invited to come along.

Founded by illustrator Rebecca Glen and events manager Martin Jack, Creative Banter was set up to provide creative individuals with a source of new contacts, valuable knowledge and information together with opportunities to participate in events, exhibit and showcase their diverse skills.

Rebecca Glen says, “When studying at The Glasgow School of Art, I enjoyed the studio environment and the creative and social benefits of being part of a collective. Now that I am going it alone, the group is a great support and inspiration.

“Our networking event is open to anyone at Skypark who wants to participate in the future of Glasgow’s creative scene. We hope to see you there.”

Kelvin Connect transforming how we stay connected

A big welcome to Kieran Pole and his team at The Insurance Helpline who have recently moved to Skypark!

The Insurance Helpline, specialises in Life Insurance and is offering Skyparkers, a free MOT / review on their life protection policies to make sure that they are getting the best policy at the best possible price. If you take a free MOT / review with The Insurance Helpline, you will receive £50 cash back if we put a new / replacement policy in place for you (which is paid to you once you pay the first premium). If you then refer a family member or a friend to us and we do a new / replacement policy for them then you get a further £100 cash back!!! (This is for every referral you give us – there is NO limit!)

Director, Kieran Pole says, “It’s great to be here and we want to celebrate the launch of our business, by offering tenants a chance to drop in and have a free 30 minute MOT on their life insurance policy at no extra cost. We have access to all of the major Life and Critical Illness companies in the UK which means that whatever your circumstances, we can get you the best policy and best price.

“We often find that many people don’t understand how life insurance works and many are on the wrong policy which doesn’t suit their needs properly. We can help to fix these problems, quickly and at no cost to you – we find better protection policies for more than 82% of people we do an MOT for so the odds are well and truly stacked in your favour”.

Carers Trust moved into Skypark in June 2013 with a staff of fifteen people who provide operational support to twenty-five carers’ centres and nineteen young carers’ projects, right across Scotland. On the 1st of April 2012 The Princess Royal Trust for Carers and Crossroads Care merged together to form a new carers’ charity called Carers Trust. This has gone on to become the largest provider of carers’ support services in the UK, giving practical advice, information and support.

Yvonne Hughes, Senior Fundraising Manager Scotland, said: “Skypark has a great community and we are looking forward to working with the many businesses and organisations on site, to raise awareness and, as importantly, funds, for Carers Trust.

“An unbelievable three out of five of us will become carers at some stage in our lives and 1 in 10 of us is already fulfilling some sort of caring role. To put this into context, on this site alone there are a potential 350 carers – this could potentially mean that someone next to you at work or the person in front of you in the queue for a coffee at Skypark are already in that position.

“Carers may need support to be able to juggle their work and caring roles or maybe returning to work if they have lost employment due to caring. Post-caring, carers may need support to rebuild a life of their own and reconnect with education, work or a social life. Help us to ensure that the enormous contribution they make to society and to those they

Carers Trust lends a hand at Skyparkcare for is fully recognised, appreciated and valued.” In Scotland, the Trust reaches over 45,000 adult carers and nearly 4,000 young carers. A carer could be anyone - a ten year old caring for his mum who has cancer whilst also looking after his younger siblings; or a working mum caring for her husband who was paralysed in a car accident. Caring is not age, gender, condition, race or time specific. It can happen to anyone at any time.

Carers’ contribution to the UK is enormous; they give up their time, employment and future aspirations to care. However, they receive little practical or financial support in return. Carers’ allowance is the lowest benefit of its kind. Poverty is a very real issue for carers, with many unable to work due to the demands of their caring role.

Carers Trust works to improve support, services and recognition for anyone living with the challenges of caring, unpaid, for a family member or friend who is ill, frail, disabled or has mental health or addiction problems. With our Network Partners, we aim to ensure that information, advice and practical support are available to all carers across the UK.

Together with our Network Partners, Carers Trust provides access to desperately-needed breaks, information and advice, education, training and employment opportunities. We give carers and young carers avenues to speak to someone and make their voices heard, offline via our carers’ services and young carers’ schemes and online via our interactive websites.

One of our main events in Scotland is the Scottish Young Carers Festival. The sixth Festival took place on 2-4 August

when over 700 young carers headed to the Scottish Borders for a much-needed break. The Festival also gives them the opportunity to meet other young people in similar situations..

Ashley, 14, a young carer from Clydebank who attended the Festival this year said:“The Scottish Young Carers Festival is a great chance for young carers like me to get away from the stresses of home. I attended last year’s Festival and really enjoyed getting the opportunity to do things such as going on the inflatables, doing cupcake decorating and face painting.”

For many of them, the Festival is the only break they will have all year as a recent survey revealed that a quarter of young carers don’t look forward to the summer holidays due to their responsibilities at home. The survey also highlighted that 30% of young carers feel stressed and lonely during the holidays.

The Festival is just one example of how the team in Scotland works to improve the lives of carers. They are constantly striving to make life easier for those in a caring role but they need support to enable them to do this.

You can support carers in many ways, run a marathon, bake some cakes, dress up and rattle a can! As an employer, it may just be help in supporting your employees who may have caring responsibilities already.

Should you wish to discuss what you can do to help carers, please contact Yvonne Hughes, Senior Fundraising Manager, [email protected].

For more information about Carers Trust, please visit www.carers.org.

Scottish artist and Skypark based Pocapoc creative designer, Mandy Reid-Foster showcases - We Float

- a portfolio of woodcut prints and pencil drawings from 5th September in Skypark 1 reception gallery.

Aberdonian Mandy started working as an account executive for Glasgow’s Pocapoc Creative two years ago and since then has grown as an artist as well as within the company. Mandy said, “I’ve showcased my work at Skypark before and I am absolutely thrilled to be asked back to exhibit once again.

“My first exhibition was the start of my journey back into art. Sacha (my boss) gave me the push I needed to exhibit. I was glad I did it in the end. I had lots of positive feedback from people.”

To increase her creative productivity, Mandy shares her energies between Pocapoc and her illustration business Mandy Maria Illustration.

Mandy said: “Working part-time allows me to do paint on my free days, or whenever inspiration comes! I feel that I can utilise my illustrative skills within my role at Pocapoc, for our own work and client projects.”

Studying Product Design at Gray’s school of Art in Aberdeen, Mandy always had a love of drawing and painting but ultimately took a different career trajectory into graphic design. Mandy said: “I would describe myself as an illustrator as my style can be quite graphical.

“I focus on mainly figurative work that evokes an emotional response. Lately I have shifted to printmaking and in particular woodcut printing. I love the craft aspect to this. My dad is a cabinet maker so it must have rubbed off.”

For more information on Mandy Reid-Foster’s artwork, please visit at www.mandymaria.com, Facebook.com/MandyMariaIllustration or follow her on twitter.com/mandymakesmarks.

Skypark’s rotating art gallery is a donated space that is open to up and coming artists. To book a space please contact [email protected].

Palmaris Security, contracts manager, Daniel Harkness keeps Skypark secure with his hard-working team 365 days a year. Read on to find out more about Danny’s role within the company.

Danny joined Palmaris Security in 2011 and since then has become responsible for a team of 12 officers, providing 24 hour surveillance at Skypark. Danny said: “My job involves day to day management of Skypark’s security operation. “Our aim is to provide the highest level of service within Skypark through effective management and direction of the security team. We build positive working partnerships across the whole Skypark community to provide a safe secure working environment. Every day is different. What I like more about my job is interacting with a cross section of people, a varied workload and the overall working environment.

With such a high demanding job, Danny when he isn’t making sure that the Skypark campus is safe likes to kick back and relax. He finished: “When I’m not working I like to spend time with my friends and family and going on holidays. I enjoy most sports, spectating more than participating these days, although I am still a keen golfer and hill walker.”

Skypark’s hot shot security team Palarmis Services, has announced that the company is a finalist in the running for a top customer service award, to be announced in October 2013.

Chris Nugent, managing director of Palarmis Services said: “Our team is in the final running of the British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM) Awards, the Oscars of the Facilities Management profession. We’re up for the prestigous customer service provider of the year award which is judged on exceptional performance. Fingers crossed we win!”

August is a somewhat sad but also a happy time for the pre-schoolers, parents and staff at Four Seasons. Many of the children who go to school have been with us since they were babies so we know the families well. It is sad they are leaving but they are all well prepared for the next steps in their learning journeys – going to Primary School.

As ever, we celebrate the children’s achievements in style. Our graduation ceremony is a mixture of tears and laughter. We video the children interviewing each other about what they want to be when they grow up. I am glad to report we have a good number of potential doctors, teachers and vets though others included a Thai boxer, a princess and a Sainsbury’s girl!

The children had made up a story about a lonely pirate so they sang, acted and danced their way to a happy ending – his friends built a boat and came to rescue him. Our expressive arts teacher even included music from Pirates of the Caribbean.

We also showed a DVD montage of pictures of their time in the Busy Bees room and marvelled at how they have all grown up.

Since they started school, many have been back to show off their uniforms and tell us how well they have settled into their new environment.
