YOUR ACTIVITY:You will create a small clay house that clearly illustrates a specific architectural style. You will also decide who will dwell in your house (animals, cartoon characters, fairies, family, etc.) and/or how your house can be used (as a luminary, planter, dish, etc.)

periods of architecture and find ones that interest you…

Start with a Google Search Architectural Styles Great Buildings Famous

Architecture/Architects Historic Buildings/Houses Styles of Houses Modern Houses

OR try some of the websites on the project sheet

Research & Brainstorming Consider the different dwellings and decide what

direction you want your design to go in Choose one style of architecture and print at least FIVE

examples that you have gained inspiration from.

Research & Brainstorming Brainstorm ideas on the details of the house you will

create. See Brainstorming & Sketching sheet. What possible shapes could the walls be? What kind of rooftop could you create? Think shape,

angles and shingles. Will the top be closed or lidded? Where and how many windows? What shape are

they? Where and what type of doors? What shape are doors? Is the house new or old? Stairs, balcony, chimney, shutters? Other ideas and details? Textures?

Share sketches with teacher and choose one final design

Research & Brainstorming Complete a final detailed drawing of what your house

will look like Include details, textures, windows, doors, potential

colors, etc.

Creating a Pattern & Template Draw the shape of the walls, roof and floors on a piece

of newsprint. THIS SHOULD BE ACTUAL SIZE!!! Share plan with teacher and once approved you will

trace onto coated board, cut out the parts and put them together in 3D form – essentially you will construct the house out of this board.

Be sure to label ALL parts!

Use template to cut slab pieces and set aside to become leather hard.

Build your house then add details, textures, and any of the features you developed previously.
