Sledge Hockey Day is a community-focused, family-friendly event designed to build community and promote inclusive sport, presented by and benefiting Robin Hood Association (RHA), the primary provider of services to people with developmental disabilities in Strathcona County.

Building on two successful, consecutive years, the 3rd annual Sledge Hockey Day will be held at Millennium Place in Sherwood Park on Saturday, March 23, 2019 from 8:30am - 4pm. The day’s festivities will center on a non-competitive, round-robin sledge hockey tournament between Robin Hood’s sledge hockey teams (comprised of adults with developmental disabilities) and corporate and community-based teams, who register to play in the tournament by way of sponsorship. The event will also feature over a dozen free, family-friendly activities throughout Millennium Place, including a sledge free-skate, NHL celebrity appearance and autograph session, an instant photobooth, face painting, kids crafts, mini stick hockey, a Zamboni tour, scooter board hockey, free massage sessions, box hockey, raffle, 50/50, skills competition, and opening and closing ceremonies.

Sponsors who register to play in the tournament have 2 options: • Register a complete team of 6 • Register a team of 5 and be paired with an experienced Robin Hood sledge athlete to act as your Team Captain

(recommended for maximum fun!)

Businesses and community groups will play against each other and against Robin Hood’s sledge hockey teams; three guaranteed matches per team. Games are 30 minutes long and played in round-robin format without elimination.

Sledge Hockey Day aims to create an environment of reciprocity between Robin Hood and our sponsors, where we provide our community partners with a novel team-building experience and a venue for business networking; and our partners support the work and ongoing operation of Robin Hood Association by way of their participation and sponsorship. At the heart of this exchange is authentic relationship-building between our partners and the people we serve – by far the most meaningful and enduring outcome that Sledge Hockey Day aims to achieve.

Sledge Hockey Day also promotes inclusive sport and upholds individuals with disabilities as bona fide athletes and contributing members of their communities.

For those wanting to play in the round-robin sledge hockey tournament but unable to recruit a complete team of 5-6 people, this option is for you! Register as an individual player and we’ll find a team for you! You’re guaranteed 3 30-minute matches and participation in the skills competition. If you register with 2-4 other individual players, the fee will be reduced to $400 each.

Robin Hood Association’s fleet of para-transit vehicles help facilitate community engagement in the areas of employment, volunteerism, recreation, health/medical, education, shopping and fellowship. They provide day, evening and weekend service, averaging 500 driving hours per week. On average, they perform approximately 2800 weekly runs, traveling 160 - 250 kms every day in Sherwood Park, Fort Saskatchewan, Edmonton and surrounding areas.
